2001 John Wiley & Sons 1 Section Telescopes and Microscopes Not everything that we wish to see is visible to the naked eye. We have trouble making out details in distant objects and can t resolve the tiny structures in nearby ones, either. We need help. To enlarge and brighten distant objects, we use Telescopes , and to do the same with nearby objects, we use Microscopes . Because these devices are almost identical in structure, though specialized to apparently different tasks, it s natural to describe them together in this Section .
