SUCTION line ACCUMULATORSThe primary function of a SUCTION line Accumulator is toprevent a sudden surge of liquid refrigerant, or oil, fromreturning down the SUCTION line and into a compressor. Thesuction line accumulator is a temporary reservoir for liquidrefrigerant and accumulator is designed to meter both the liquid refrigerant and oilback to the compressor at a controlled rate. This prevents compressordamage. By metering the liquid refrigerant and oil back to thecompressor, the accumulator also helps maintain system efficiency andproper crankcase oil levels. Both horizontal and vertical SUCTION lineaccumulators are available. Heat Exchanger (HE) and Heat Pump models(HP) are also line ACCUMULATORS are installed in air conditioning andrefrigeration systems where a sudden return of liquid down the suctionline is possible.
