THE TAMILNADU SHOPS AND ESTABLISHMENTS ACT, 1947 (ACT XXXVI OF 1947) [Received the assent of the Governor General on 2nd February, 1948, first published in the Fort St. George Gazette on the 10th February, 1948] An Act to provide for the regulation of conditions of work in SHOPS , commercial ESTABLISHMENTS , restaurants, theatres and other ESTABLISHMENTS , and for certain other purposes. WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the regulation of conditions of work in SHOPS , commercial ESTABLISHMENTS and for certain other purposes; it is hereby enacted as follows: 1. Short title, extent and commencement (1) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu SHOPS and ESTABLISHMENTS Act, 1947 (2) It extends to the whole of the 1[State] of Tamil Nadu.
1947 (2) It extends to the whole of the 1[State] of Tamil Nadu. 2[(3) (a) It shall come into force in the following areas on such date as the State Government may, by notification, appoint: (i) the City of Madras, (ii) all the municipalities constituted under the Madras District Municipalities Act, 1920 (Madras Act V of 1920), and
