Sparkle Vol. 655 / 20 Dec 2012 California Proposition 65 Updates California s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, also known as Proposition 65, requires the governor s office to publish a list of chemicals known by the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The purpose is to improve public health by reducing incidents of cancer and adverse reproductive outcomes. This list is updated at least once a year and contains a wide range of chemicals. Recently a flame retardant tris (1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TDCPP) was added to the list of chemicals.
