Water Smart Landscapes Program Plant List Together with the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition (SNRPC), the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has developed a list of plants that can be adapted to our desert environment in the Las Vegas area. It was created by members of the SNRPC s Regional Urban Forestry Working Group in conjunction with local experts including arborist, horticulturists, and urban foresters. This list can be used as a tool for participants in the Water Smart Landscapes Program to calculate the 50% canopy coverage requirement. The square footage (coverage) value given for each Plant is its mature size and will be used by the SNWA to determine the canopy coverage regardless of the size of the Plant at the time of the inspection. The list is not intended to be a list of the only plants allowed in the region, nor is it intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list of all desert-appropriate plants .
The list is not intended to be a list of the only plants allowed in the region, nor is it intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list of all desert-appropriate plants. In addition, it is not intended to restrict what plants residents choose to plant in their yards. Rather, we hope that this list will help residents and businesses make informed
