Transcription of Water Smart Landscapes Program Plant List
1 Water Smart Landscapes Program Plant List Together with the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition (SNRPC), the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has developed a list of plants that can be adapted to our desert environment in the Las Vegas area. It was created by members of the SNRPC s Regional Urban Forestry Working Group in conjunction with local experts including arborist, horticulturists, and urban foresters. This list can be used as a tool for participants in the Water Smart Landscapes Program to calculate the 50% canopy coverage requirement. The square footage (coverage) value given for each Plant is its mature size and will be used by the SNWA to determine the canopy coverage regardless of the size of the Plant at the time of the inspection. The list is not intended to be a list of the only plants allowed in the region, nor is it intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list of all desert-appropriate plants .
2 In addition, it is not intended to restrict what plants residents choose to Plant in their yards. Rather, we hope that this list will help residents and businesses make informed decisions about which plants to choose. The SNWA does not endorse or require the use of any or all plants found on this list. Participants may use any living Plant , where the trunk or stem is within the converted area, towards meeting the 50% canopy coverage requirement. The list is divided between trees and other plants , including shrubs, groundcovers, vines, succulents and perennials. It is sorted alphabetically by the common names of the plants . There are several columns of attributes that can be used to determine which plants are appropriate to use in specific situations. Although we will calculate Plant values for these, the following grasses/trees are no longer to be sold or planted.
3 They are either on the State of Nevada s noxious weed list or banned by the Clark County Health District for their allergenic properties.
