hold the test tube with the help of a test tube holder at an angle and heat just below the surface of the liquid but not at the bottom (Fig. 2.8). While heating, shake the test tube occasionally. If the test tube is heated at the bottom, a bubble may form causing the entire content to spill out of the test tube violently. This is called bumping.
