developed for penile cancer and has been best studied in melanoma. In breast cancer, SLNB has been explored as a less morbid alternative to axillary lymph node dissection (ALND). In theory, a properly performed negative SLNB should eliminate the need for completion ALND. The risk of lymphedema is significantly lower after SLNB than ALND.
