The successive application of two symmetry operations is equivalent to some single symmetry operation. For example, applying C 3, then σ 1 to our starting orientation, we have σ 1 C 3 {1,2,3} = σ 1 {2,3,1} = {2,1,3} But this is eqivalent to the single operation σ
