THE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM
The NAVSTAR Global Positioning System is a satellite based navigation system being developed and maintained by the DoD since 1972, for providing extremely accurate 3-D position fixes and UTC information to properly equipped users anywhere on or near the Earth, at any time, regardless of weather conditions.
