1 UA Department of Civil Engineering Technical Electives The Department of Civil Engineering requires 15 credits of technical electives (note: for Honors students, 3 credits of Honors Project counts as part of the 15 credits). Technical electives are defined to include courses as follows: Civil Engineering (4300) courses which are not otherwise required and carry a 400-level number or above. All other College of Engineering (4xxx) courses which are not otherwise required and carry a 300-level number or 400-level number, excluding General Engineering (4100) courses.
2 All Mathematics (3450), Statistics (3470), Chemistry (3150), or Computer Science (3460) courses which are not otherwise required and carry a 300 or 400-level number. Three semester hours of Advanced ROTC. A maximum of 3 credits of technical electives may be taken outside the Department of Civil Engineering ( , from non-4300 courses). Any other elective substitution would have to be approved by the Undergraduate committee (see Course Substitutions Policy below). Course Substitutions Policy In order for an Engineering requirement to be satisfied using another course, pre-approval has to be granted by the Undergraduate Committee.
3 The student must send a written request for the substitution for the course, as well as a reasonable justification for its replacement, to the chair of the Undergraduate Committee, Dr. Roke A copy of the decision is put into the students file at the same time he/she is notified. The Department cannot make decisions for substitutions in General Education requirements. This can only be done by the University College.
