I-94 FAQ For INTERNAL CIRCULATION ONLY Q : What is an I-94? A : The I-94 is the Arrival / Departure Record, in either paper or electronic format, issued by a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer to foreign visitors entering the United States. After April 30, 2013, most Arrival/Departure records is created electronically upon arrival. Instead of a paper form, the visitor is provided with an annotated stamp in the foreign passport. If provided a paper form, the admitting CBP Officer generally attaches the I-94 to the visitor's passport and stamps the departure date on the form. 3 A : Last Used / Departure Date refers to the date of utilization of your previous I-94 / exit date from US. Refer below scenarios: To add details of new I-94, click on Add New I94 & then above screen will pop up. Enter necessary information & Click on Save . Records will be saved in the system 1) You entered US on 1-Jan- 2014 & was issued I-94 valid until 15-Mar-2017, however you departed from US on 30-Dec-2014, then you need to update this date (30-Dec-14) as Last Used / Departure Date. 2) You Entered US on 1-Jan-2014 on L1 & was issued I-94 valid until 15-Mar-2017, however company filled for your H-1B to change the status from L1 to H-1B requesting approval start date as 1-Oct-14, then you need to update 30-Sep-14 (one day prior to H-1B Approval Start Date) Last Used / Departure Date. Q : Is it mandatory to update I-94 records? A : Yes. Immigration Status will be tracked based on the records available in system.
