2 Rotatingflags have a square profile withembedded permanent magnets. The fluxfield generated by the ringmagnet in the floatinteracts with the flagmagnets causing them torotate as the float movesup and down inside thehousing. After the flagsrotate to the new position,the embedded magnetslock the flags in place,making the flags lesssensitive to vibration (SeeFigures 4 and 5). 3 Accidentalspills from sight-glassbreakage are consists of3 major components: the float housing, a magnetic float, and therotating flag assembly. The float housing is an engineeredpressure vessel which is externally mounted to the tank. The floathousing is designed to handle the sametemperatures and pressures found in thetank. It is fabricated from a variety ofmaterials, depending on theapplication. The alloy models areusually stainless steel. Engineered plasticmodels use polyvinylchloride (PVC),polypropylene (PP) or polyvinylidenfluoride (PVDF).

4 Other materials areavailable on float (See Figure 3), is equippedwith a permanent ring magnet assembly rides at the surface of theliquid contained within the float housing,rising and falling as the liquid in thetank rises and the float moves up and down,a magnetic flux field maintains continuous contact with the rotatingflags mounted on the outside of the float housing. 5 Theassembly is attached to the outside of the float housing withstainless steel clamps. The ends are sealed against dust andmoisture. Since the flags are never in contact with the liquid, theynever need to be cleaned and they can t discolor. If the rotatingflag assembly is accidentally crushed, there is no danger of a rotating flag assembly is available in aluminum orpolycarbonate and measures (30 mm) and (26 mm)wide, respectively (See Figure 6).Aluminum flags are offered in an anodized finish of red andsilver or painted in red and white.

6 Anodized flags are suitable forservice up to 400 F (200 C); painted versions can be subjected to600 F (316 C). A glass pane protects the flags. The housing isextruded, black anodized flag housings are clear and offer 180 visibility of the flags; Level can be seen from frontand sides (See Figure 5). Housing and flags can withstandtemperatures to 250 F (121 C). Standard flag colors are red SpecificationsLevelSites are designed according to the unique requirementsof each application. Based on information provided by the userregarding operating temperature, pressure, and normal specificgravity of the liquid, a float is selected appropriate to theapplication.

7 Maximum and minimum conditions are evaluated toensure that the LevelSite will function not only at the normalcondition, but at each extreme. 8 It can be suppliedwith process connections locatedfor any of the four standard patterns: top/bottom, top/side,side/side, or side/bottom (See Figure 7). For applications wheretank-side mounting of the LevelSite is not practical or desired, topmounted versions are available. 10 Make sure that all parts are available and the connectingflanges on the tank correspond to those on the indicator . The floatand limit switches (if applicable) are enclosed in a separate the bottom connection flange (1) of the float chamber andinsert the float with the top uppermost. Replace the bottom flangewith the gasket, fixing it to the chamber by tightening all the boltssecurely.
