A resistance-temperature detector (RTD) is a temperature sensing device whose resistance increases with temperature. An RTD consists of a wire coil or deposited film of pure metal. RTDs can be made of different metals and have different resistances, but the most popular RTD is platinum and has a nominal resistance of 100ÊΩ at 0°ÊC.

The ratio of that resistance to room temperature resistance (R300) is the indicator of filament temperature. The calibration of this

temperature in degrees Kelvin. Two significant features to note from both the curve and the equation are that the photogenerated current (Ip)is additive to the diode current, and the dark current is merely the diode's reverse leakage current. Finally, the detector shunt resistance is the slope of the I-V curve (dV/dI) evaluated atV= 0.

Temperature and resistance values should be made at evenly spaced increments over a range greater than the intended range-of-operation for the thermistor. 1.
