THROMBOELASTOGRAPHY (TEG) IN TRAUMA

Conventional TEG is activated with kaolin, which initiates the intrinsic pathway, resulting in the “reaction time” or “R-time” that is similar to a PTT. Rapid thromboelastography utilizes tissue factor (TF) in addition to kaolin, activating both the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways, producing the activated clotting time or TEG-ACT.
