3 These Islands and Cays, part of the Bahamian Archipelago, form the Sea of Abaco. Finding peaceful waters and respite from war, the Loyalists built settlements throughout the Abacos that continue to this day. Hopetown, Man-o-War and Cherokee Point have a distinct English flair evidenced in architecture, food, customs and persons. bahamas Sea Base Marsh Harbour is the largest settlement in the Abacos and home to bahamas Sea Base. Crews fly into Marsh Harbour Airport (MHH). To enter the bahamas , participants must have passports. Minors traveling without a parent or guardian must also have a notarized Sea Base Unaccompanied Minor Travel Form.

4 After clearing Bahamian Customs, crews take the first available airport taxi to Conch Inn and Marina in downtown Marsh Harbour. Upon arrival at Conch Inn and Marina, crews meet with Sea Base staff and captains, complete a gear shakedown and review paperwork (services are limited in the Abacos, paperwork must complete and in order). After the shakedown is complete, crews board their vessel and set the adventure, crews go ashore to explore settlements, beaches and snorkel. While ashore, Sea Base requires that crews stay together as a unit (youth and adults). Crews must act in accordance with the Scout Oath and Law.

5 Each crew returns to dock at Conch Inn and Marina the final evening of program. Once docked, the crew is responsible to clean and provision the vessel for the next crew. Afterwards, crews may access showers, laundry and pool Gateway to High Adventure In 1974 a collection of Boy Scout volunteers from Miami and Atlanta along with South Florida Council District Executive Sam Wampler began offering ocean-based aquatic programs via rented and borrowed equipment in South Florida and the bahamas . In consecutive summers, seventy to eighty individuals were certified in scuba diving and in 1977 the program was extended to include sailing aboard chartered vessels.

6 Florida Gateway to High Adventure becomes Florida national High Adventure Sea Base Given significant growth 1974- 1978, it became evident that a permanent site was needed to facilitate Florida Gateway to High Adventure programs. With a legacy gift by the Fleishman Foundation in 1979, Toll Gate Inn and Marina on Lower Matecumbe Key was secured, its buildings renovated and dormitories built. Florida national High Adventure Sea Base was 1982, Homer Formby donated Big Munson Island launching the Sea Base Out Island program. bahamas Sea Base officially began as a Florida national High Adventure Sea Base program in Sea Base Conference and Training Center opened in 1995 in the newly constructed Adams Building gifted in honor of BSA volunteer William L.

7 Adams. Glenn Adams continues his father s legacy as a member of the Sea Base Committee. Brinton Environmental Center opened in 2001 with funding donated from the Brinton Trust, in honor of J. Porter Thomas Sea Base, under the direction of General Manager Captain Paul Beal and Program Directors Captain Mike and Kelly Lucivero, began operation in , bahamas Overview Spanning 120 miles, the Abacos are a collection of Islands and Cays in Northeast bahamas often referred to as The Family or Friendly Islands. Originally inhabited by the native Lucayan, the bahamas were first visited by Christopher Columbus on behalf of Spain in , privateers, and pirates controlled the waters of the Caribbean, including the Abacos, throughout the late 1600 and early 1700 s.

8 The likes of Calico Jack Rackam, Henry Morgan and Blackbeard held port in the Abacos until Woodes Rogers was appointed Bahamian Governor in 1718 and eradicated piracy. Sea Base History & OverviewSEA BASE TALENT AND PHOTO RELEASEAll BSA Sea Base participants, parents and legal guardians of participants are informed that photographs, film, video, electronic representations and/or sound recordings may be made and/or captured during their Sea Base Adventure. These images, recordings may be used for training and promotion purposes for Sea Sea Base participant and parent, and legal guardian of participant, by completing the required Annual Health and Medical Record Part A: Informed Consent, Release Agreement, and Authorization, will fulfill the necessary Talent Release requirements for Sea Base BSA.

Individuals who do not meet Sea Base Eligibility requirements will not be permitted to participate in a Sea Base Adventure. Anyone arriving at Sea Base who does not meet the listed criteria will be sent home and will not be issued a : All participants must be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America or Learning for Life Incorporated. Minimum Age Requirement: Sea Base participants must be at least 13 years as evidenced by their BSA Annual Health and Medical Record.
