8 Manual Revision #: 00 Passenger Handling Services Document Ref. PHS/HAM/01 Revision Date 05-09-08 Controlled Document Do not Copy or reproduce without prior permission. 5 Introduction PIA currently operates to numerous International destinations around the world. Whenever an airline flies to another international destination, it requires ground Handling services. This requirement can be fulfilled in either of the two ways; the carrier can have its own setup at a station, or hire services of a ground Handling agent.

9 Frequency of operation, equipment used and a number of other factors are considered while choosing amongst the two options, however mostly the later is selected as its more cost-effective, offers greater flexibility & scalability and supports the airline to start its operation more swiftly. When PIA opts to use the services of an external ground Handling agent or service provider, it shall have a legal contract with the agent or provider that specifies details for applicability of and compliance with the operating standards of PIA.

10 IATA has suggested a standard format which can be used by airlines and Handling agencies to enter into a contract for Ground Handling . PIA follows this format for all its Ground Handling Agreements and Service Level Agreements . The Handling Agreements Division is responsible for finalization and maintenance of all Ground Handling Agreements for the foreign stations on which PIA operates, further more, this division also acts as sales and service delivery center and performs the function of Business Development, by offering PIA services as a Ground Handling Agent to airlines operating to various destinations in Pakistan.
