10 The Guide is based uponpeer review, editorial and expert judgements followingthe evaluation of many hundreds of publications, and isinformed by statistical information relating to citation. It isa Guide to the range, subject matter and relative quality ofjournals in which business and management academicspublish their primary motivation of the Editors and the ScientificCommittee is to provide a level playing field. Emergingscholars will have greater clarity as to which journals toaim for, and where the best work in their field tends to beclustered. By the same measure, publication in top journalsgives scholars a recognised currency on which careerprogress can be based; should personal networks deny itscurrency in one institution, there will be others who willrecognise and welcome work may of course be found anywhere, but it isa generally held view that good work is more likely tobe found in some journals as compared to others.
