INTRODUCTION Scope An Institute Par Excellence VIT, established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College.

3 The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development conferred the "Deemed University" status on Vellore Engineering College in 2001. The ADMISSION POLICY applies to all admissions in VIT and is reviewed annually. All admissions are subject to discipline and conduct of the candidate. The admissions are done in a transparent manner and only on merit basis. Institutional Context Our Vision We at VIT will impart futuristic technical education and instill high patterns of discipline through our dedicated staff, who shall set global standards, making our students technologically superior and ethically strong, who in turn shall improve the quality of life of the human race.

4 Our Mission Our mission is to educate students from all over India, including those from the local and rural areas, and from other countries, so they become enlightened individuals, improving the living standards of their families, industry and society. We will provide individual attention, world-class quality education and take care of character building. Making an Impact VIT, consistently ranked among the top educational institutions in India, is considered to be on par with top institutions of the world. To cater to the growing demand for quality education, VIT has two campuses at Vellore and Chennai.

5 To augment learning resources and promote inter-disciplinary research, VIT has consolidated various disciplines into thirteen Schools of Excellence. Highlights VIT has some of the most dedicated and talented thought leaders in Academia as faculty. The University's Human Resource policies offer the faculty and staff 6th Pay Commission scale of pay. VIT employs experts from industry, government and international academic institutions as Visiting Professors. Internal funding mechanisms provide extensive research support for faculty and students. More than 200 Memoranda of Understanding with foreign Universities support study abroad, student and faculty exchange, collaborative research and other international activities.

6 4 More than 2250 scholars are engaged in research activities in 10 centres of excellence and 13 schools. Undergraduate and Postgraduate student involvement in research has become a key aspect of the scholarly activities on campus. During the current year, more than 100 international conferences, workshops and online presentations have helped link VIT faculty and students with their counterparts all over the world. Memoranda of Understanding with Universities in the USA and other countries have created opportunities for dual degrees at the bachelors, masters and the doctoral level.

7 The Academic Staff College plays an important role in the continuous upgradation of skill and knowledge of faculty members. Promoting Research VIT lays great emphasis on fundamental and applied research and in publishing research papers in international journals of repute. It has also got patents for its research findings. 8 Software and digital learning management systems Industry links with firms across multiple domain Visiting faculty and invited experts for Guest Lectures from industries for every subject Four weeks of compulsory Industrial Training (Internship) for students Scholarships and Awards VIT motivates talented youngsters by offering scholarships / awards every year. Merit scholarships are awarded to class toppers while economically disadvantaged students are provided need-based financial assistance every year. Meritorious NRI and foreign students are also given scholarships.

9 Free education is available for rural students who secure ranks at the District level (Tamil Nadu students only) & First Year ADMISSION scholarships for top rank holders in VITEEE are also given. GATE Toppers of students are also given scholarship. In addition, scholarships are given to students who excel in sports and games. Financial assistance is also provided to students who wish to do their project work in partner Universities and institutions abroad, under the Semester Abroad Programme (SAP). To encourage students pursue active research, VIT awards appropriate research associateships to meritorious and needy students.

10 100% scholarships are awarded to first rank holders of State Board and Central Board students. 5 Aims of the POLICY VIT was established with the aim of providing quality higher education, on par with international standards. It persistently seeks and adopts innovative methods to improve the quality of higher education on a consistent basis. The campus has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with students from all corners of the globe. Experienced and learned teachers are strongly encouraged to nurture the students into well-rounded individuals. The global standards set at VIT in the field of teaching and research spurs us on in our relentless pursuit of excellence.
