2 We have a number of staff changes that we would like to inform you of. First, we would like to welcome back Ms. Sunderland to the staff at Trillium Woods Public School! Ms. Sunderland will be assuming Mrs. Perri s teaching responsibilities while she is off on Maternity Leave. Later this month, we would like to welcome back Ms. Fong who returns from her mat leave. Thank you to Mrs. Esposito for all support over the past year! Also, join us in welcoming Ms. Abdille. Ms. Abdille is an Educa-tional Assistant that will be supporting our students while Ms. Askarzadeh is off on leave. Planning continues for the 2018-2019 school year. We remind you to notify us should you be moving to another area.

3 Also, Kindergarten Registration continues for September. Should you have any questions with regards to registration, please call our main office. We look forward to welcoming all our students and their families to our annual Arts Night on Thursday April 26th. We will be sharing musical performances and works of visual arts! Track your child s growth and development by com-pleting the Nipissing District Developmental Screen (ndds) for your child. The YES/NO questions measure your child s abilities in a number of key areas. There are also suggested activities to prepare your child for the next stage of development. If one or more NO response is marked, talk to a health care pro-vider or child care professional about your concerns. Early identification and intervention will increase your child s ability to reach their full potential.

5 The 13 stages of the ndds from one month to six years of age are availa-ble free of charge to all Ontario residents and are available in English, French, Chinese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Russian and Farsi. 6 Please only send NUT-FREE snacks and lunches. World Autism Day Tuesday, April 3, 2018 Students and staff are encouraged to wear BLUE to show support for students with Autism. Introducing Online Absence Reporting Parents/guardians can now report student absences online. Regular and punctual attendance affects school success and is expected of all students. It is im-portant that students, families and school staff work together to ensure regular attendance. You are expected to notify the school as soon as possible if your child will be absent or late. Reporting an absence online is now available through Edsby. If you have activated your Edsby ac-count, you can login to Edsby and report your child s absence online.

7 You can access an online vid-eo tutorial to learn more ( ) about how to do this. If you have not yet created an Edsby account, please contact the school office. Families can still continue to report absences by phone or email. Character Corner: Integrity The Character Matters trait for the month of April is Integrity. Integrity is defined as a firm attachment to moral principles and to high standards. It is also defined as total honesty and sincerity. This character trait is an im-portant one to teach our children. What is integrity? Being honest and trustworthy Maintaining steadfast adherence to a strict code of moral, ethical, or artistic values Being consistently truthful, sincere and fair What does integrity look like/sound like?

8 We encourage students to: Tell the truth, even if it means admitting a mistake or knowing that it may not be accepted by others Having the courage to do the right thing, even if it may mean losing a friend, or the acceptance of a peer group Keeping a promise Accepting the consequences when a mistake is made Integrity is doing the right thing, even if no one is watching. Jim Stovall York Regional Police: ROAD WATCH PROGRAM A reminder that our Kiss N Ride is the safest option for daily drop off and pick up daily. We continue to ob-serve unsafe driving/parking along Alamo Heights each day. A few reminders: Slow down and be ready to stop for school buses and pedestrians Respect the crossing guard Be aware of children running in front of or behind buses or other obstructions (snow banks) Make sure your child gets out from the passenger side of your vehicle Park away from the school and walk your child onto school property Respect neighbours and driveways DO NOT PARK within 6 meters of any stop sign or intersection DO NOT Double park in the street Should you observe traffic infractions that jeopardize student safety, we ask you to complete a Road Watch Report.

Are You Planning on Moving? In planning for next year s classes, it is most helpful to know if your child or children will be attending another school in September 2018 (high school not included). If your child(ren) will not be returning, please notify the school office.

10 If your child currently attends Trillium Woods and you have moved out of the school s attendance area, please contact Ms. Khan at the school office. Ms. Khan will advise you on how to make arrange-ments for your child s September placement at their new school.
