1 Aptitude Screening System Version 01/04/2017 Welcome to the Aptitude Screening Test (AST). 2 The EST is a fairly accurate test for Aptitude often judging applicants 10+/- points of their AFQT. I wanted to sustain that level of accuracy for this System . The scoring matrix and reference tables for standard scores and percentages were pulled directly from the code of the program that all recruiters are familiar with. Accessibility: Display: The AST was created with a combination of HTML for web page layout, PHP for server side calculations of scores, and a secure SQL database for storage of information. This System is compatible with almost all internet browsers, mobile phone browsers, and tablets. Anywhere: Whereas the EST was only available through a recruiter s laptop or tablet, the AST is accessible from anywhere with an internet or phone data connection.

3 The System uses test tokens much like the PiCAT to allow testers to test from anywhere. Once the token has been used, they will not be able to access the test again without another generated token from their recruiter. Personal Identifying Information: This System only requires the applicant s first name, last name, and an email address. I also adhere to the Privacy Act. No personal information will be given or sold to a 3rd party. This System is strictly for Screening of applicants for enlistment purposes. Cuts down on windshield time: You have the ability to test for Aptitude before making that 2 hour round trip to your prospects house just to watch them not use their scratch sheet of paper and QT a 6.

4 Using the Aptitude Screening System NOTE: Only persons with a or account will be able to request an administrator account with this System . Signing up for an administrator account allows you to generate new tokens for your testers. It will also allow you to browse previously tested persons and review scores. Accounts are completely free to Army Recruiting Command personnel. To create your account and begin using the AST System follow the steps below. STEP 1: Navigate your browser of choice to STEP 2: Click on register. STEP 3: Fill out your information. Please be accurate when entering your info. An email address can only be used once.

5 STEP 4: Log on to your email account. An email was sent by the System to verify your email address. There is a link in the email which you ll need to click which will activate your account. NOTE: If you don t receive an email within a few minutes, check your SPAM folder as it may have ended up there. STEP 5: Once you have verified your account, click the login button located at the top right of the menu bar. When you reach the login page, type in your email address and the password you used to register your account. STEP 6: Welcome to the administration page. You are now fully functional. Hope you enjoy. Add a new tester to your roster Browse your historical test roster Adding a New Tester To add a new tester to your roster all you need is their first name, last name, gender, and email address.

6 The comments block is for your use to keep notes on testers. The comments field is not a mandatory field. Once you input the required fields and click get new user token a one-time use token will be generated and appended to the website test link. An email will be sent to the tester letting them know you have authorized them to take the test. Alternatively you may copy and paste the test link to your applicant through social media or text messaging. IMPORTANT: Administrators, do not click on that test link, it will run you straight into the test itself. If you start the test and click past the instructions screen, the test timer will begin.

7 Browsing your testers Click on the browse user button on the menu bar. The ability to save and browse through past testers is one that I thought would be helpful at times. Future upgrades to this application might include a statistical analysis of testers. It ll show what the average score is for your area, or perhaps create an excel spreadsheet that you can save or print out listing all your testing information. Let me know your thoughts on more things to add. So I m sure some of you are wondering what the test experience is going to be like. Let s head on over to the last section of this instruction booklet. Your individual test roster Click on a name and click show tester to review details The detail pane shows you tester info, if they completed the test, section percentage scores, and their AFQT What does it look like for the tester?

8 Well let s take a look. The following is the test instructions screen. This is a view inside one of the test sections. They all pretty much continue the same so I ll spare you 50+ images. Test section indicator Test content window Timer No peeking. Final Scoring Finally, this is a view of the scoring screen. This is the screen your tester will see when he/she finishes the test. While that token link is a one-time use only token, if the tester clicks on the email link again it will take them directly to their scores. Percentile Scores As you can see, unlike the EST the AST also gives the tester and the recruiter a percentile score for the test section.

9 This allows you to talk to your applicant about what they need to study most on. CONCLUSION This concludes our walk through of the new Aptitude Screening Test. I hope that you all will find it a great part of your toolkit and I welcome any ideas for improvements. Goals My goal was to create a more versatile program to replace the EST. I also wanted accessibility on all devices and the ability to cut back on windshield time for a LOW EST. I think I have accomplished those two things with this System . Remember Even though there are messages printed throughout this program and on the emails, still remind your applicants that this is an Aptitude test.
