Administrative Assistant 3 First Sunday of Advent| November 28, 2021 West Entrance Door will be Unlocked for Masses Beginning November 28 Dear Parishioners, After having conversations with parishioners and several committees about our decision to keep the west door locked, the results of the conversations were presented to the Pastoral Council. After further discussion, we have come to an understanding how important it is to have this entrance unlocked prior to Mass. The Council is still concerned about safety and security, therefore the door will be locked after Mass has begun. Please make sure you come early enough for Mass to ensure entrance through the door.

It can still be used as an exit at anytime. Ushers Needed We are in need of Ushers to greet people and assist as needed during Mass. Anyone is welcome to join this Ministry. If you re interested there is a signup sheet in the Ushers room. Someone will contact you with more information. Desserts Needed December 1, 2021 The next St. Vincent de Paul Meal Site date is December 1. Desserts can be dropped off at the rectory on that day from 8:45 AM to 3:00 PM. Cupcake holders are available in the Ushers room or at the rectory. Thank you to all bakers helping with this ministry. Liturgy Stand We are introducing a new liturgy stand, that is located at the Oklahoma Avenue entrance across from the women s restroom and east choir loft doorway.

The stand will contain all information related to the liturgy, such as liturgical minister schedules and signup sheets. Advent Wreath Candle Lighting An Advent wreath candle lighting ceremony takes place at the weekend Masses during the four weeks of Advent. If you would like to participate in the ceremony, a signup sheet on a clipboard will be available at the Liturgy Stand. Please sign up for only one time slot to allow all interested individuals a chance to participate. Toy Drive For House of Peace The Advent Giving Tree, decorated by our K4-2nd Grade school children, is located near the St. Joseph statue in the front of church and will be until December 14.

Donated unwrapped toys will be forwarded to the House of Peace to be distributed to families who need help making Christmas special for their children. Please place your unwrapped gift under the tree. Here are some suggestions on gifts from The House of Peace: Playdoh Sets, scooters, Hot Wheels cars or trucks, music head sets or earphones, action figures, stuffed animals, Etch-A-Sketch, basketballs, footballs, baseballs, soccer balls, Children s books or any other toys for children birth to 10 year of age. The House of Peace thanks you for your support. Advent Prayer Booklets & Oplatki Christmas Wafers Two Prayer Booklets, Little Blue Booklet & Bishop Robert barron s Advent Gospel Reflections , are available for your Advent prayers.

Oplatki Christmas Wafers are also available. The Booklets and Wafers are on the Communion Rail. A Reflection from Deacon Matthew Ferch Today, we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. Advent comes from the Latin word, Advenire, which means to come toward. In our case, Christ is coming toward us at the end of time. When the end of time comes, Christ will come and gather all people to himself. He will judge each person and raise those who have been faithful. Advent is a time to prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord. To that we pray Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus. Each candle on the Advent wreath symbolizes a specific virtue. On this, the First Sunday of Advent, the first purple candle symbolizes hope.
