He also visited Persia, where heobserved a cooking competition in which twomen attempted to outdo each other's culinaryskills, serving gorgeously prepared dishes onbeautiful table settings. When Ibn Battutafinally arrived at the court of the reigningsultan in Delhi, India, he was enthralled bythe magnificent surroundings. Among theremarkable scenes he recorded in his journalwas the sultan's returning to court amid aprocession of elephants outfitted withcatapults that tossed gold coins into Battuta stayed in Delhi for ten yearsand was eventually appointed Indianambassador to China.
