1 Certification & Instructional Professional Development 1 7-1-2013 Steps to Certification STEP 1: Submit Complete Application Package to the Department of education (To apply on-line: ) Check for $ payable to the Florida Dept of Ed. Submit an official transcript showing an acceptable bachelor s or higher degree conferred. Submit copies of valid out-of-state certificates held, if applicable. Meet the subject content requirements in a subject in which Florida offers Certification by degree major, coursework ( GPA), or a passing score on the subject area examination.
2 The Bureau of Educator Certification will not begin to process your application until all of the above items are received. Once your file is complete, it will take two to four months to receive your official Statement of Status of Eligibility. Please be sure that your social security number is clearly written on every document sent to the Bureau. 2 6-3-2013 STEP 2: Receive an Official Statement of Status of Eligibility. Letter will reflect whether you qualify for a certificate. Lists deficiencies and requirements for a five year Professional Certificate.
3 STEP 3: Obtain Employment in a Florida School. Complete application process with school district BEACON District submits fingerprint record to the Department of education . Temporary/ Professional certificate is issued. Steps to Certification 3 2/20/2012 STEP 4: Submit Application for your Professional Certificate. (must be completed by May 1st ) Submit application and $ fee for certificate or apply on-line Meet requirements listed on your Statement of Eligibility which may include: Satisfying the testing requirements ( Professional Ed, Subject Area and *General Knowledge test).
4 Completion of college courses or BPS/ACP program. Successful completion of the Professional education Competencies. Satisfying the practical teaching requirement. * General Knowledge testing requirement must be met within the initial year of teaching (May 1st ). 5 SERVICE REQUESTED: INITIAL Professional (5 year) Certificate ($ ): Requires official transcripts reflecting college courses or BPS/ACP completed and passing test scores. SERVICE REQUESTED: PROCERT Professional (5 year) Certificate ($ ): Issue Professional Certificate in different subject. Requires a copy of the passing test score. SERVICE REQUESTED: NEWPRO Addition of a Subject ($ ): Requires a copy of passing score or in-service record to add an endorsement. SERVICE REQUESTED: ADDNEW Certification Application (CG10) 9 2/20/2012 Athletic Coaching certificate ($ ): Requires three coaching classes in three years and a valid CPR card.

(Located under Teacher Portal on website) Must be completed by May 1 st with all requirements to renew. Florida Statute requires school districts to re-fingerprint certified employees every five years at the time of renewal of a Professional Certificate. This change is effective July 1, 2004. Fingerprint reports must be processed before certificate will be renewed. (Must complete the Level II Background Check form in yellow only).

(see school secretary) Renewal of Certificate Procedures 17 6-3-2013 Renewal of Certificate Procedures 18 Sample of the Level II Background Check Form 8/10/13 Fingerprinting Services Protocol: Payment for fingerprinting is required prior to coming to District Security for fingerprinting. If paying by money order, the money order must be made out to Cogent Services. Fingerprinting Hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 to 4:30 A valid Driver License (from any state) or State Identification Card must be presented and must be current.
9 No expired Drivers License will be accepted.
