Distance Education ( law programs ) The National Law University, Jodhpur is an institution of national prominence established under the National Law University, Jodhpur , Act, 1999 (Act No. 22 of 1999) enacted by the Rajasthan State Legislature. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission under Section 2 (f) of the Act vide notification (CPP-1) dated 18th March, 2004 and also by the Bar Council of India. The Distance Education programs of the University is designed to provide an excellent opportunity to those who want to update their knowledge and skills through the process of continuous learning. 1 Distance Education ( law programs ) The National Law University, Jodhpur is an institution of national prominence established under the National Law University, Jodhpur , Act, 1999 (Act No. 22 of 1999) enacted by the Rajasthan State Legislature. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission under Section 2 (f) of the Act vide notification (CPP-1) dated 18th March, 2004 and also by the Bar Council of India. The Distance Education programs of the University is designed to provide an excellent opportunity to those who want to update their knowledge and skills through the process of continuous learning. 2 The University applied for recognition of the programs offered by it through Distance Education mode as per the Distance Education Council norms. As per requirement of the Distance Education Council, necessary documentation was sent with the letter dated 8 Thereafter, we learnt that Distance Education Council has been brought within the fold of the University Grants Commission and the grant of affiliation to Distance Education Courses are presently administered by the Distance Education Bureau of the UGC. Hence, we wrote a letter to the Director, Distance Education Bureau, UGC vide letter No. NLU/JODH/2014/03775 dated for grant of affiliation. Application of the University for recognition was since pending consideration since long, University requested the UGC to grant recognition from the retrospective effect.

3 The University, till date, has awarded 145 degrees/diplomas to the candidates who successfully completed the law programs offered by the University, as per following details:- Name of the Program Number Masters of Law in Criminal Law, Criminology & Forensic Science. 82 Masters of Law in International Trade Laws & WTO. 23 Master in Corporate Laws. 28 The University never projected/advertised on its Website that it is recognized by the Distance Education Council/ University Grants Commission. As and when query regarding recognition status is sought, it is communicated by the University that application of the University seeking recognition of Distance Education ( law programs ) is pending consideration before the DEC/UGC.

4 Section-4 and 5 (iv) of the National Law University, Jodhpur Act, 1999, inter alia, provides that:- (4)The Objects of the (1) The objects of the University shall be to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and research and with a view to ensure its proper role in national development, to develop in the student and research scholar a sense of responsibility to serve Society in the field of law by developing skills in regard to advocacy, Judicial and other legal services, Legislation, law reforms and the like to advance the professional Education and also to provide adequate orientation and training to judicial officers and others who are involved in the administration of Justice; to impart training and conduct refresher courses for law teachers, judicial officers, advocates and other persons engaged or interested in legal field; to organize lectures, seminars, symposia and conferences, to promote legal knowledge and to make law and legal processes efficient instruments of social development, to hold examinations and confer degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic distinctions and to do all such things as are incidental, necessary or conducive to the attainment of all or any of the objects of the University.

Powers and functions of the University,- The Powers and Functions of the University shall be,- (iv) to hold examinations and to grant diplomas or certificates, and to confer degrees and other academic distinctions on persons subject to such condition as the University may determine and to withdraw any such diplomas; certificates degrees or other academic distinctions for good and sufficient cause; Statute-15 of the Act of 1999 contains powers and duties of the Academic Council of the University. Statute 15 (f) which reads as under:- (f) to recognise diplomas and degrees and other Universities and institution and to determine their equivalence in relation to the diplomas and degrees of the University; Total admissions upto 2010-11 : 455 Admissions during the Academic Years 2011-12 & 2012-13: Name of the Program 2011-12 2012-13 Total in Criminal Law, Criminology & Forensic Science.
