3 DoD fire and Emergency Services Certification Requirements X = Required Z = If the mission or vehicles are assigned K = Required if the position is used to fill in for the Assistant chief for Operations Notes: 1. This chart depicts the minimum DoD Certification Requirements required to occupy the positions indicated. 2. Upgrade training Requirements for USAF military fire fighters includes professional military education (PME) which is not included in this chart. 3. Required Training. For the purposes of attending training, required (priority) training is the training required for the current and next higher level duty position.

4 (Example: Required training for a Crew chief is that training required for a Crew chief and Station chief ). 4. Desired Training. For the purposes of attending training, desired training is that training above and beyond the current and next higher duty position. Normally, this is not considered in the best interest of the DoD and is not considered appropriate use of government resources for individuals to pursue training that is not required or too far in advance of the need.
