EDIFACT CONTRL 1 Introduction Function The following documentation contains the description of the EDI message " CONTRL " as used for an exchange of messages between the Volkswagen Group of America (VWGoA)/Volkswagen Canada (VGCA) Service Parts Logistics and its trading partners.

2 The EDI message " CONTRL " serves the purpose of acknowledging or rejecting, with error indication, a received interchange, functional group or message. Guidelines A CONTRL message can be used to: a. acknowledge or reject a received interchange, functional group or message and list any errors contained therein, or b. Indicate only the receipt of an interchange. VWGoA/VGCA require the CONTRL message of its all the outbound messages as quick as possible in order to track the message status VWGoA/VGCA communicate the CONTRL message of its all inbound messages back to trading partners References The "Control" message is based on the message type CONTRL , EDIFACT -Directory VWGoA Service Parts NSC EDIFACT CONTRL ' Page | 4. 3 The description of the segment is based on the documentation CONTRL , EDIFACT -Directory Segment Layout The following example illustrates how the segment description of the message segments is structured. 4 Subset. The first column contains a data element identifier and descriptions. Words in bold print are elements of the group identifier or plain data elements. Normal print elements are group data elements. The second column contains instructions of the EDIFACT status (Conditional or Mandatory), the data format as well as the length of the data element. EDIFACT CONTRL Data Exchange Structure and Service Segments The structure of an EDIFACT interchange is divided into several group levels. The service segments build brackets around the groups. Structure of an interchange: UNB. UNH. MESSAGE 1. UNT. UNH. MESSAGE 2. UNT.. UNH. MESSAGE N. UNT. UNZ. The first service segment, "UNB", indicates the start of a transmission. The "UNH" service segment identifies the start of a message. For each start service segment, there is an end-service segment.
