The DESADV must be sent to Volkswagen Group of America (VWGoA)/Volkswagen Group of Canada (VGCA) for all deliveries shipped to logistics contractor/vendor and for shipments to VWGoA/VGCA Distribution Centre.

3 The dispatch and transport data must be sent immediately upon dispatch of the shipment. The dispatch and transport data will be processed as soon as the file arrives in the receiving system and will be used for the following purposes: early provision of information to the goods recipient about material in transit minimizing the cost and effort of recording material data minimizing the cost and effort of recording packaging data minimizing the cost and effort of recording transport data Cancellation of a complete EDI transmission will be achieved by repeating the transmission, using the same Shipment identification number and setting all quantities to zero. The transmission identification number may be assigned consecutively as a serial number; VWGoA/VGCA will also accept the repetition of the transmission identification number which is to be cancelled.

4 The material receiving department of the recipient plant must be informed of any cancellation. Guidelines The EDI message dispatch and transport data DESADV is usually sent for a (collection) transport. A transport consists of one or more shipments. Shipment has following characteristics: A shipment is identified by a shipment number. Each shipment line within a shipment must contain an unique reference (Example: Document and it s( document) line item number. The document number can be delivery document (SG10-SG16-SG17-RFF-C506-DE1154) within the shipment and the item can be delivery line item number(SG10-SG16-SG17-RFF-C506-DE1156)) A shipment could contain one or more Handling units. A handling unit is a physical unit created by the loader which cannot be divided up during transport.

5 A handling unit can be, for instance, a stacked unit pack or a crate with sub packaging (delivery units). Handling units without sub packaging, a KLT (small parts container), carton, box, are simplified handling units. VWGoA/VGCA currently uses only the simplified handling units. Handling units will not be nested into further handling units. The DESADV that we require are set up differently than the corresponding messages that will be exchanged with the Chattanooga production plant, so careful attention must be given when reviewing VWGoA Service Parts EDI specifications.
