Elementary Lesson 6: Jesus Raises Lazarus from the Dead Bible Point: Jesus gives us hope of eternal life. Key Verse: Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies. (John 11:25) Pre Activity 10 min Everyone Starting in Their Own Rooms First 5/10 Min: Welcome children to the classroom as they arrive. Have each child find their teacher and sit in a circle with their class. use a ball as a tool to pass around the circle; the person with the ball answers the question and asks the next question.

Make it a game Ask children one fun thing that they did this past week or weekend. Ask what they remember from last week s Lesson . Go to room 203 at 10 after the hour for large group worship and Lesson . Ball to pass Worship 15 min WORSHIP: Worship Leader (WL): Welcome children and state the Lesson name and bible point. Open in prayer. Begin worship by getting kids excited! (perhaps some stretches to prepare for dancing!) Worship: 1. Happy Day 2. Fearfully and Wonderfully Made When songs are completed, have the kids sit with their classes and teacher.

(teachers joining the kids; preferably sitting near those that are more quick to distract) TITHING: Lesson Leader (LL): We are going to start each Sunday morning with tithing, because of its importance and so that we can share this experience. Question: Can anyone explain why we tithe and what it means to tithe? Live It Out DVD DVD Player Tithing bucket Lesson 30 min LARGE GROUP Lesson : Prep for Chalkboard or Dry Erase Board: LL write Lesson Title (top line), Key Verse (middle line), and Bible Point (bottom line) on board.

Small slips of Paper and a Pen Activity I Prep: Play this game to get kids thinking about Lazarus being raised from the dead. Before class, prepare enough small slips of paper for each child in class to have one. On one of the slips, write "winker," and on another write, "miracle worker." Leave the rest of the slips blank. Fold all the slips in half. LL: One of you has a slip of paper that says "winker," and another one of you has a slip that says, "miracle worker." The rest of you have blank slips of paper.

Don't tell anyone which slip of paper you have! You will watch one another carefully. If the person who has the slip that says "winker" winks at you, you're "dead" and must cross your arms over your chest to indicate that. Keep your eyes open, because if the miracle worker blinks both eyes at you, you will be alive again! Then you should raise both of your hands in the air, say, "I'm alive!" and then come sit in the middle of the circle. But don't say who the winker and the miracle worker are until the end of the game!

LL Note: When kids understand the rules of the game and that they aren't supposed to reveal who the winker and the miracle worker are during the game, begin to play. When everyone but the winker and the miracle worker is in the middle, have kids shout together who the miracle worker is. LL: How did you feel when you were first winked at and were dead? LL: How did knowing a miracle worker could bring you back to life give you hope? LL: In today's Bible story, we'll learn about a man who died and who Jesus brought back to life.

Jesus is the perfect miracle worker! We'll learn about this man, his family, and friends, and we'll discover how they all had hope in Jesus and how we can have hope, too. Key Verse: Direct students attention to chalkboard or Dry Erase board and read aloud Key Verse with class. Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life, He who believes in me will live, even though he dies. (John 11:25) READING John 11: 1 44 LL: Everyone grab their bibles and lets turn to John 11: 1 44 Read John 11:1 44 Have students read aloud individually , in groups or the Lesson leader can read aloud and the students can follow along.

LL: Who are the main characters in this story? Who is Lazarus , Martha, and Mary? LL: What is the situation/What is happening? LL: What do the characters have in common? LL: What did Jesus say or do for all of the characters?) LL: Do you think that the characters displayed hope (trust) in Jesus ? How? LL: How do you think their hope in Jesus Christ helped them? LL: How do you think Lazarus felt when Jesus brought him back to life? LL: What hope do we have in Jesus ? ( Jesus gave Mary, Martha, and Lazarus hope.

He gives us hope too. Jesus gives us hope of eternal life. If we keep getting to know Jesus and make our relationship with him grow, we will live forever with him in heaven. Our key verse today tells us that too. LL: Repeat Key Verse with students: Offer a candy prize to whoever can remember this verse (verbatim) by the end of class. LL: What hope does this verse give? (The hope of eternal life; the hope that we ll live in heaven after we die on earth). LL: Jesus has promised these things to anyone who believes in him and has a relationship with him.

But not everyone does. LL: Think of one person who you know needs to know about the hope you have in Jesus . This person could be a friend from school, a family member, or anyone else. LL: What can we do to help others grow in a relationship with Jesus ? Daily Challenge: Tell a friend or family member the story of Lazarus . Write down the names of people to talk to this week. Tell students that they can pray for the person or simply invite the person to church.
