Foreword This European Standard EN 1998-3, Eurocode 8: Design of structures for earthquake Assessnlent and Retrofitting of buildings, has been prepared by Technical Comnlittee CEN/TC 250 "Structural Eurocodes", the secretariat of vvhich is held by BSL CEN/TC 250 is responsible for all Structural Eurocodes.

10 This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by December 2005, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by March 2010. This dOCUl11ent supersedes ENV 1998-1 1996.
