What is the ENERGY EFFICIENCY Label? A comparative label that contains the ENERGY consumption EFFICIENCY for each product and guides the consumer to the most efficient product What is Star Rating? The number of stars displayed on the ENERGY EFFICIENCY label to indicate the ENERGY consumption EFFICIENCY in accordance to the number of stars Is ENERGY EFFICIENCY Label Mandatory? ENERGY Label will be mandatory starting from 27th April 2010.

2 All product suppliers of air-conditioners, refrigerators/freezers and washing machines shall have their products registered before this date. Where can you obtain SASO standards? The ENERGY EFFICIENCY label design details are specified for each product in its relevant SASO standard and all suppliers shall only use this design.

3 Are there any standard application forms to be submitted by applicant for obtaining ENERGY EFFICIENCY Label? Yes, there are standard application forms within the individual SASO standards applicable for the product. If required these application forms could be sent to the applicant upon request by the CO/RLC. Is factory's internal laboratory report accepted? Yes, it has been agreed with SASO that Intertek can witness tests at factory facility and provide their evaluation report. Based on these reports and application form Intertek LO will review and submit to SASO.

4 Will the ENERGY EFFICIENCY labels be inspected by customs? Customs will inspect the presence of ENERGY EFFICIENCY labels on the consignments at Custom terminals and will not allow the access of consignments not accompanied with ENERGY EFFICIENCY labels. What are the procedures of surveillance to be taken by Saudi Authorities to ensure the enforcement of ENERGY EFFICIENCY LABELLING ? Customs will inspect the presence of ENERGY EFFICIENCY labels on and inside packages at Saudi ports. SASO will inspect the displayed products in showroom to make sure that ENERGY EFFICIENCY labels are displayed on them.

During the renewal of Registration can the manufacturer submit the old test reports used for obtaining the initial Registration? A new application should be submitted every time a Registration comes up for renewal along with the latest/. updated test reports and documents. Can manufacturer use ENERGY EFFICIENCY label Licence on their products to advertise and market the product?

6 Yes, as long as the Licence is valid however any marketing activity related to the product's ENERGY EFFICIENCY label shall be stopped if the Licence validity expires. Any offence will be considered as commercial fraud and the penalties specified in the commercial fraudulence control regulation will be executed by the Saudi authorities. If the label on the product was found faked or tampered with and does not match the real ENERGY EFFICIENCY ratings of the product, what are the penalties? SASO in this case has the right to cancel or suspend the License and prevent using the label.

7 They may also wish to impose other penalties at their discretion. Does the ENERGY EFFICIENCY LABELLING program include the components of products under the scope of ENERGY LABELLING or only the complete appliance? Only complete products are required to be accompanied with ENERGY EFFICIENCY LABELLING , ENERGY EFFICIENCY labels are not required for shipments of stand alone components or spare parts For Air Conditioners, what are the test temperature to be used by laboratory at T1 and T3 cooling capacity test conditions? Will it be changed in the future?

8 Currently; the test temperatures to be used are T1 (moderate climate) @ 35 C and T3 (hot/ tropical climate). @ 46 C. The data resulting from testing at both temperatures 35 C and 46 C shall be marked on the nameplate of the product, while the data on the ENERGY EFFICIENCY label (including star rating) will be from testing at 35 C only. SASO may increase these test temperature in the future based on market study. What is the test Voltage and Frequency for ENERGY EFFICIENCY LABELLING ? Tests shall be performed at single phase voltage @ 127 or 220 V, as applicable and Frequency of 60Hz What is MEPS?

9 MEPS stand for Minimum ENERGY Performance Standard. The standard on MEPS provides detailed INFORMATION on the performance in terms of ENERGY EFFICIENCY Ratio (EER) and ENERGY EFFICIENCY LABELLING requirements for Air Conditioners. What is EER? ENERGY EFFICIENCY Ratio (EER) forms part of Minimum ENERGY Performance Standard (MEPS). It determines the ENERGY performance of the product. It is also used to determine the Star rating of certain window and split type air-conditioners What is EER value for Air-Conditioners? EER shall be at cooling capacity test condition T1 (moderate climate).
