In the consumer choice problem in chapter 12 we derived the result that the Lagrange multiplier, λ, represented the change in the value of the Lagrange function when the consumer’s budget changed. We loosely interpreted λas the marginal utility of income. Now let us derive a more general interpretation of the Lagrange multiplier
