3 It authorizes the requisitioning, issue, anddisposition of spares, repair parts and special tools as indicated by the source, maintenance, and recoverability(SMR) Repair Parts and Special Tools List is divided into the following sections:a. Section Parts list of spares and repair parts authorized bythis RPSTL for use in the performance of maintenance. This list also includes parts which must be removed forreplacement of the authorized parts. Parts lists are composed of functional groups in ascending item numbersequence, with the parts in each group listed in ascending item number sequence. Figure numbers are listeddirectly beneath the group header. Bulk materials are listed in item name sequence.

4 Repair part kits are listedseparately in their own functional group within Section II. Repair parts for reparable special tools are also listedin this section. Items listed are shown on the associated Section Tools Section list, in National item identification number(NIIN) sequence, of all National stock numbered items appearing in the listing, followed by a list inalphanumeric sequence of all part numbers appearing in the listings. National stock numbers and part numbersare cross-referenced to each illustration figure and item number appearance. The figure number and itemnumber index lists figure and item numbers in numeric sequence and cross-references National stock number,Commercial and Government Entity Code, and part numbers.

5 The Reference Designator Index lists thereference designator in alphanumeric sequence and cross references the figure and item Of Columns (Section II and III) No. (Column (1)).Indicates the number used to identify items called out in the Code (Column (2)).The source, maintenance, and recoverability (SMR) code is a five-position code containing supply/requisitioning information, maintenance category authorization criteria anddisposition instructions, as shown in the following breakout:1TM 11- 5820 -890-23 PNOTEC omplete repair: Maintenance capacity, capability, andauthority to perform all corrective maintenance tasks of the repair function in a use/user environment in order torestore serviceability to a failed item.

6 (1)Source source code tells you how to get an item needed for maintenance, repair,or over-haul of an end item/equipment. Explanations of source codes follows:CodeExplanationItems with these codes are not to be requested/requisitioned individually. They are part ofa kit which is authorized to the maintenance category indicated in the third position of theSMR codeNOTEI tems coded PC are subject to deteriorationItems with these codes are not to be requested/requisitioned individually. They are partof a kit which is authorized to the maintenance category indicated in the third position ofthe SMR code. The complete kit must be requisitioned and with these codes are not to be requested/requisitionedindividually.

7 They must be made from bulk material which isidentified by the part number in the description and usable oncode (UOC) column and listed in the Bulk Material group of therepair parts list. If the item is authorized to you by the thirdposition code of the SMR code, but the source code indicatesit is made at a higher category, order the item from the highercategory of with these codes are not to be requested/requisitionedindividually. The parts that make up the assembled item mustbe requisitioned or fabricated and assembled at the categoryof maintenance indicated by the source code. If the thirdposition code of the SMR code authorizes you to replace theitem, but the source code indicates the item is assembled at ahigher category, order the item from the higher category -Do not requisition an XA coded item.

8 Order its next higher -If an XB item is not available from salvage, order it using the CAGEC and part number -Installation drawing, diagram, instruction sheet, field service drawing, that is identified bymanufacturers part -Item is not stocked. Order an XD coded item through normal supply channels using the CAGECand part number given, if no NSN is 11- 5820 -890-23 PNOTEC annibalization or controlled exchange, whenauthorized, may be used as a source of supply foritems with the above source codes, except for thosesource coded XA or those aircraft support itemsrestricted by requirements of AR 750-1.(2)Maintenance codes tell you the category of maintenance authorized to USE andREPAIR support items.

9 The maintenance codes are entered in the third and forth positions of the SMR code asfollows:(a) The maintenance code entered in the third position tells you the lowest maintenance category authorized toremove, replace, and use an item. The maintenance code entered in the third position will indicateauthorization to one of the following categories of I ExplanationC -Crew or operator maintenance done within organizational or aviation -Organizational or aviation unit category can remove, replace, and use the -Direct support or aviation intermediate category can remove, replace, and use the -General support category can remove, replace, and use the -Specialized repair activity can remove, replace, and use the -Depot category can remove, replace, and use the item.

10 (b) The maintenance code entered in the fourth position tells whether or not the item is to be repaired andidentifies the lowest maintenance category with the capability to do complete repair ( , perform all authorized repairfunctions). This position will contain one of the following maintenance limited repair may be done on the item at alower category of maintenance, if authorized by theMaintenance Allocation Chart (MAC) and -Organizational or aviation unit is the lowest category that can do complete repair of the -Direct support or aviation intermediate is the lowest category that can do complete repair of the -General support is the lowest category that can do complete repair of the -Specialized repair activity (designate the specialized repair activity)
