2 This Technical manual (TM), authenticated for Marine Corps use and effective upon receipt, provides MAINTENANCE instructions as determined by TM 11078-IN for Rough Terrain Container Handler (RTCH), National Stock Number (NSN) 3830-01-522-7364. 2. 5 Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, deadly poison which, when breathed, deprives the body of oxy-gen and causes suffocation. Exposure to air containing carbon monoxide produces symptoms of head-ache, dizziness, loss of muscular control, apparent drowsiness, and coma. Permanent brain damage ordeath can result from severe exposure. Carbon monoxide occurs in exhaust fumes of internal combustion engines. Carbon monoxide canbecome dangerously concentrated under conditions of inadequate ventilation. The following precautionsmust be observed to ensure safety of personnel when engine of RTCH is NOT operate RTCH engine in enclosed NOT idle RTCH engine without adequate NOT drive RTCH with inspection plates or cover plates ALERT for exhaust poisoning symptoms.

7 If a bat-tery is giving off gases, it can explode and cause injury to personnel. Remove all jewelry such as rings, IDtags, watches, and bracelets. If jewelry or a tool contacts a battery terminal, a direct short will result ininstant heating, damage to equipment, and injury to personnel. Sulfuric acid contained in batteries can cause serious burns. If battery corrosion or electrolyte makescontact with skin, eyes, or clothing, take immediate action to stop the corrosive burning effects. Failureto follow these procedures may result in death or serious injury to Flush with cold water for no less than 15 minutes and seek medical attention Flush with large amounts of cold water until all acid is removed.

8 Seek medical attention as If corrosion or electrolyte is ingested, drink large amounts of water or milk. Follow with milk of mag-nesia, beaten egg, or vegetable oil. Seek medical attention Clothing/Equipment. Wash area with large amounts of cold water. Neutralize acid with baking soda or house-hold AGENTSI mproper cleaning methods and use of unauthorized cleaning agents can injure personnel and dam-age equipment. To prevent this, refer to TM 9-247 for further AIRC ompressed air used for cleaning or drying purposes, or for clearing restrictions, should never exceed30 psi (207 kPa). Use protective equipment and exercise caution to avoid injury to FUEL HANDLING DO NOT perform fuel system checks, inspections or MAINTENANCE while smoking or near fire, flames, orsparks.

9 Fuel may ignite, causing damage to vehicle and injury or death to personnel. Wear fuel-resistant gloves when handling fuels and promptly wash exposed skin and change 10-3930-675-24-1eWARNINGDRY CLEANING SOLVENTDry cleaning solvent P-D-680 type III is toxic and flammable. Wear protective goggles and gloves anduse only in a well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothes and do not breathevapors. DO NOT use near open flames or excessive heat. The solvent s flash point is 200 F (94 C). Ifyou become dizzy while using dry cleaning solvent, get fresh air immediately and get medical atten-tion. If solvent contacts eyes, wash your eyes and seek medical attention SYSTEM MAINTENANCER emove all jewelry, watches, rings, etc.
