5 Such factors as size,shape, function and anticipated drainagerequirements of the area must be taken intoaccount when planning for adequate and properdrainage of the area . These elements are of equalimportance when sizing and locating the drainsand drainage lines to which they are , many factors concerning plumbingand building codes apply, so it is recommendedthat they be consulted at the outset of selectionand specification potential volume of drainage to beaccommodated by DRAINS serving interior areascan, as a rule, be calculated with reasonableaccuracy using the total amount of water withinthe area as a basis for sizing.

6 The area s functionas well as types of water use equipment usedwithin the area must be considered. 10 Please refer to inside front area DRAIN FEATURESTRAFFIC CONDITIONSOnce installed, FLOOR DRAINS become integralcomponents of the FLOOR or area in which they arelocated. Therefore, the drain selected for eachinstallation must have tops or grates capable ofsustaining the type of load to be supported by thefloor. This is particularly significant where drainsselected are installed in traffic locations. It isrecognized that top-loading requirements varywith the location, type of construction and serviceconditions. These requirements for FLOOR and areadrains are addressed in American NationalStandards Institute, FLOOR DRAINS , with the following five toploading classifications:LIGHT DUTY- all grates having safe live loadunder 2000 DUTY- all grates having safe live loadbetween 2000 and 4999 DUTY- all grates having safe live loadbetween 5000 and 7499 HEAVY DUTY- all grates having safe liveload between 7500 and 10,000 DUTY- all grates having safe live loadover 10,000 lbs.
