Vehicles get old, and their lift Supports lose the original charge, and therefore in many cases are NOT able to support the weight of the HOODS, TRUNKS, BACK WINDOWS, BACK DOORS, HATCHES, TONNEAU COVERS, LIDS, TOOL BOX COVERS, BEDS. that they are supposed to carry. Accidents are other major causes of failure of the Lift Supports , by damaging the integrity of its seals. You will be able to tell if a particular lift support is not operating properly if the hatch, trunk, or hood does not stay up, and you will need more than normal effort to lift the hatch, hood, or trunk. It is recommended that Lift Supports are replaced in pairs, since it is not possible to tell which Lift support is damaged. If the wrong Lift support is replaced, the new Lift support will not work properly, and will deteriorate prematurely.
