General The ABBREVIATIONS used in the AIP new zealand are generally in accordance with those listed in ICAO ABBREVIATIONS and Codes PANS-ABC. (Doc 8400), and CAR Part 1. ABBREVIATIONS are correct in the use of upper and/or lower case where there is an applicable international standard, such as for units of measurement (ICAO ANNEX 5). Upper case is always used in communications on the aeronautical fixed service, such as transmission on the international AFTN, or in the text of NOTAM. A shortened list of ABBREVIATIONS is also available on the Airways website.
