Aristotle It gives me immense pleasure to pen a few words for our e- BULLETIN . At the onset I would like to thank the last year s editors and congratulate the newly selected editors for the current year. Our first consideration is always in the best interest of the students.

3 Our goal is to promote academic excellence and continuous improvement. I believe that excellence in education is aided by creating a learning environment in which all learners are supported in maximizing their potential and talents. Education needs to focus on personalized learning and instruction, while promoting an education system that is impartial, universally accessible, and meeting the needs of all students. It is of paramount importance that our learners have sufficient motivation and encouragement in order to achieve their aims. We are all very proud of you, our students, and your accomplishments and look forward to watching as you put your mark on the profession in the years ahead.

4 The call of the time is to progress, not merely to move ahead. Our progressive Management is looking forward and wants our Institute to flourish as a Post Graduate Institute of Excellence. Steps are taken in this direction and fruits of these efforts will be received by our students in the near future. Our Teachers are committed and dedicated for the development of the institution by imparting their knowledge and play the role of facilitator as well as role model to our students. The Pharmacy profession is thriving with a multitude of possibilities, opportunities and positive challenges. At Guru Nanak Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, our focus is on holistic needs of our students.

JEENATARA BEGUM ASSOCIATE EDITOR MANDAL HISTORICAL ARTICLEF ranz Boas 1858-1942 Widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential anthropologists ever, Franz Boas was a German-American scientist, who is also known as the Father of Modern Anthropology.

6 He was the first person to implement the scientific method into the study of human cultures and societies. Early Life and Education: Born in Minden, Westphalia, Franz Boas showed an early interest in both nature and natural sciences. He studied at the universities of Heidelberg, Bonn, and Kiel, and finally got his in physics with a minor in geography from the University of Kiel in 1881. Boas worked in Baffinland, Canada, from 1883 to 1884, while from 1885 to 1886; he conducted field research in several museums on the North Pacific Coast of North America. He was also an important part of a project involving the cultures of Native Americans which lasted almost one year.

7 Contributions and Achievements: Franz Boas was the most important figure in 20th century North American anthropology. He laid down the four-field structure of the discipline around cultural, physical, linguistic and archaeological disciplines pertaining to the American Indian. He also trained many professional anthropologists. Boas made memorable contributions to the changes in immigrant head form undercut eugenics arguments and lessened the significance of anthropometric measures of race. 8 While studying culture, his theoretical contributions dealt with the critique of evolution. He destroyed the rationalist theories of human nature. His historical particularism, his insistency on stringent ethnographic method, and his stress on the native point of view were pivotal to the development of modern anthroplogy. Later Life and Death: Franz Boas oversaw the Columbia Anthropology Department for more than four decades. Boas died on 21 December, 1942. He was 84 years old. They hope to turn the discovery into new therapeutic approaches to fight metastatic cancers. Blood biomarkers in drug-resistant cancer tumor cells identified: (21st September, 2016 ) While searching for a non-invasive way to detect prostate cancer cells circulating in blood, researchers have identified some blood markers associated with tumor resistance to two common hormone therapies.

10 Click here to go at the top 3 23-09- 2016 Immune and targeted therapies with radiation therapy improves outcomes for melanoma brain metastases patients, say researchers: (21st September, 2016 ) Researchers have sought to determine if patients with melanoma brain metastases treated with immune and targeted therapies had improved outcomes over patients treated with conventional chemotherapy. They retrospectively analyzed data from 96 patients with melanoma brain metastases who were treated with stereotactic radiation therapy within 3 months of different targeted therapies (anti PD-1 therapy, anti CTLA-4 therapy, BRAF inhibitor plus a MEK inhibitor, or a BRAF inhibitor alone) or conventional chemotherapy.
