1 District: gurdaspur About District gurdaspur was founded by Guriya Ji in the beginning of 17th century. On his name, this city was named as gurdaspur . He bought land for gurdaspur from Jats of Sangi Gotra. It is also established that some people used to live in huts in the old city. Guriya Ji a Sanwal Brahmin of Kaushal Gotra belonged to a village Paniar situated 5 miles north of gurdaspur . The ancestors of Guriya Ji came from Ayodhaya long time ago and settled in Paniar. Guriya Ji had two sons Rai and Ji. The descendants of Nawal Rai settled in gurdaspur Nawal Rai s son Baba Deep Chand was a contemporary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
2 It is believed that Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave the title of Ganj Bakhsh (Owner Of Treasure) to Baba Deep Chand. The descendants of Baba Deep Chand are known as Mahants. Little is known about the ancient history of the district except a few antiquities like the rock temples at Mukheshwar gurdaspur along with its neighboring districts was the same of the explicit of Alexander, who came up to River Beas in his grand design of world conquest. He fought a grim battle with the Kathaians at Sangala which is located near Fatehgarh in gurdaspur .
3 Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who thus assumed way over the whole district. 4 Muslim population of the district migrated to Pakistan and refugees, the Hindus and the Sikhs of Sialkot and Tehsil Shakargarh migrated to gurdaspur after crossing the Ravi bridge. They settled and spread in gurdaspur district. Total area of the district is 3562 Project Details DISE (District Information System for Elections) : The General Elections, Assembly Elections, Zila Parishad, MCs and Panchayat Elections in Punjab saw NIC gurdaspur District Centre working round the clock to provide all necessary informatics support to the District Administration.
5 SUWIDHA (Single User-Friendly Window Disposal & Helpline for Applicants) : Latest software updates installed at District Headquarter and all five SDM offices in the district. Nineteen out of 24 front end services are being offered to citizens along with backend services of affidavit attestation, countersigning, arms license issuance system, PAAS & Cert. Issuance System etc. SSIS (Social Security Information System) : The implementation of this package enables the timely, monthly and smoothly distribution of various social security pensions to 1,90,000 beneficiaries of the district.
6 Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension is also being awarded to 19,000 beneficiaries. Parole Information System : Parole Information System was developed and implemented for maintaining the parole leave account for 300 sentenced prisoners of Central Jail gurdaspur . Survey of Atta Dal Scheme : Data regarding 1,04,023 (Rural) and 29,703 (Urban) no. of poor families for the distribution of subsidized Atta Dal was compiled and various reports were generated. Sarathi-Vahan software implemented in the office of District Transport Officer, gurdaspur .
7 The activities include s/w installation, testing, training and attending the problems of users as and when the need arise. Sarathi & Vahan also implemented at SDM Offices Batala & Pathankot. IDSP (Integrated Disease Surveillance Project) : This project of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare covers the districts and aims at establishing a suitable surveillance system for monitoring disease incidence & health parameters and to provide sufficient information instantaneously. IDSP computer centre and training room have been established under this project at Civil Surgeon office, gurdaspur .
8 CONFONET : Provided all kinds of technical support for implementing this project in District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum gurdaspur . Central Level Projects : Providing all kind of technical support to various departments for implementation of centre sponsored projects like a. DCIS (District Court Information System) b AGMARKNET c. Subordinate Courts Computerization. d. Mapping of Blocks/ Gram Panchayats & Census Villages. e. Common integrated Police Application (CIPA) PRISM (Property Registration Information System Module) : Yearly property rate revision being done for all 5 Tehsils and 10 Sub-Tehsils of the District.
9 Providing all kind of technical support to the sites. Video Conference Centre has been set up in the district & providing VC facility to various Govt. Offices. District Website: Regularly updating official district Web site Pensioners data & Suwidha data is regularly uploaded on this web site. All the contents have been provided by District Administration. National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) implemented in the district successfully. District Treasury Computerization. Payment, Receipt and Pension modules implemented.
10 This includes training to district treasury officials, DDO codification entry, scanning of photographs of messengers & signatures of DDOs, daily bills/vouchers entry and periodical report generation for submission to director(T&A), Chandigarh. Also implemented at Sub Treasuries of the district. Daily data entry/report generation for software package Court Cases Monitoring (DC, ADC & SDMs). COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES MONITORING SYSTEM has been implemented. Data entry was done for all three parts namely Statement-I, Statement-II & Statement-III (RBI-Tables) and complete data was sent to State Headquarters.
