1 Impact Evaluation Paolo Naticchioni The course introduces basic tools used in microeconometrics to estimate the causal effect of a policy (a treatment variable) on an outcome variable. These tools are widely used in all fields of microeconomics (development economics, labour and public economics, industrial economics, household economics, public policies, economics of education), and its applications are increasing also in macroeconomics fields (for instance in growth empirics).
2 Class teaching is complemented by practical exercises using STATA. Course Outline Introduction to econometric techniques in Impact Evaluation : potential, factual and counterfactual analysis Impact Evaluation in an experimental setting: Randomization Selection on observables: parametric (OLS) and non-parametric approach (matching methods); A simulation of a natural experiment: the regression discountinuity design; Estimates of causal effects using longitudinal data: the difference-in-difference procedure.
