The B&M Megashifter shifter canbe used in vehicles equipped with mostpopular three speed or four speed au-tomatic transmissions. Your B&M Me-gashifter comes equipped with neu-tral safety and backup light switches, transmission brackets and levers anda five foot shift cable. Optional shiftercables in 2 ft. (#80830), 3 ft.(#80831),4 ft.(#80832), 8 ft.(#80834), 10ft.(#80835) and 12 ft. (#80836) are alsoavailable. To use the B&M Megashift-er with the Ford AOD transmissionsyou will need the optional accessorykit # read the Instructions andreview the illustrations thoroughly be-fore beginning the mechanical components of thisshifter are precision made and as-sembled at our factory. Any modifica-tion or disassembly of these parts cancause the shifter to malfunction andwill void the warranty.

You should dis-assemble only those items outlined inthe vehicle should be about 2 feetoff the ground for ease of jack stands, wheel ramps or avehicle lift. Make sure the vehicle isfirmly supported before attempting towork on : If your vehicle is equippedwith a locking steering column, secur-ing the column lock lever in the enginecompartment in the full up position willallow the steering wheel to be lockedand unlocked and the ignition key to : This allows the steeringwheel to be locked WHENEVER theignition key is turned to the lock position WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOV-ING, OR AT ANY OTHER TIME. Se-curing the steering column lock lever inany other position will both PREVENTthe steering wheel from locking andremoval of the ignition : If you are installing this shifterwith a four speed automatic transmis-sion, you must remove the blocker pinand the two e-clips indicated in Fig-ures 1 and 3.

Removing this blockerpin gives the shifter four forward posi-tions rather than three. For Ford AODfour speed transmissions do not re-move this blocker pin and the two e-clips, since this transmission has onlythree forward positions. Also do notremove the blocker pin and the two e-clips for three speed automatic 1. Remove the stock shift link-age;Column Shifters: Remove all rods, levers or cables from the column andthe transmission. Place the columnshift lever in the Park position. Removethe pin holding the shift lever in thecolumn and remove the lever assem-bly. If your vehicle is equipped with alocking steering column, secure thecolumn lock lever in the full up : This allows the steeringwheel to be locked and ignition keyremoved WHENEVER the ignition keyis turned to the lock position WHILETHE VEHICLE IS MOVING, OR ATANY OTHER Shifters: Remove the shiftermechanism from the console.

Discon-nect the rod or the cable from thetransmission. Remove the cablebracket if equipped. If there is a cableor linkage from the console shifter orthe transmission to the steering col-umn lock, it must be blocked in thePark position as described : Shifter Installation may requireconsole modification or complete con-sole removal depending on the spaceavailable in your the carpet away from thefloorboard where the shifter is to bemounted. If the vehicle has a benchtype seat, move the seat to the fullforward position. Place the shifter onthe floor with the stick shifted to therearmost gate position. Locate theshifter for ease and convenience ofoperation (See Figure 2). Make surethe trigger and T-handle clear the dashwith the shifter in the Park the position of four mountingholes on the four 9/32" mounting holeswhere marked.

Temporarily mount theshifter in place using washers as re-quired to get it level. Do not bend themounting brackets on the bottomof the shifter. Mark the location for theshifter cable hole, 3" ahead of the leftfront shifter mounting hole. Drill or cuta 1-1/2" diameter cable hole in thefloorboard. NOTE: Some floorboardsare extremely thin and will not ad-equately support the shifter mecha-nism when bolted to the floor. Forthose vehicles we recommend thatyou fabricate a stiffener plate for addi-tional (but do not secure) thecarpet back to it s original holes in the carpet for the mount-ing holes and the cable. DO NOT usea drill bit to make holes in the in InstructionsMegashifterPart Number 80690 B&M Racing & Performance Products LLC 2000 STEP the shifter mechanisminto the vehicle.

Slide the shifter cablethrough the carpet and the hole in thefloor. Bolt the shifter down using four 1/4" x 1-1/2" hex bolts and nuts. If re-quired use 1/4" washers as shimsbetween the shifter mechanism andthe floor to level the shifter. ROUTETHE CABLE AS SHOWN IN FIGURE4, AVOID SHARP BENDS WHICHWILL KINK AND DAMAGE THECABLE. Use cable clamps or tie wrapsto secure the cable housing to thechassis to avoid contact with hot en-gine or exhaust the hole where the cablegoes through the floorboards to preventair or water leakage. A putty typesealer can be used. For General Mo-tors vehicles go to Step 10, for Fordvehicles go to Step 15, for Chryslervehicles go to Step MOTORSSTEP you have not already doneso, remove the stock selector lever nutand the selector lever from the trans-mission.

Discard the stock lever andthe stock shifter linkage. Install theB&M selector lever in position usingthe stock selector lever nut (See Fig-ure 5). Torque the nut to 23 lb. ft. Thelever should move smoothly from frontto rear with a positive click in each two transmissionoil pan bolts from the middle of the leftside of the oil pan. Install the cablebracket in position (See Figure 5).The bracket must be installed with twospacers between the pan and thebracket. (If your transmission isequipped with a cast aluminum oil pan, these spacers should be omitted. Witha TH-400 with a cast aluminum oil pan,the cable bracket may have to bemodified.) Install the two 5/16-18 " bolts (Metric transmissions usethe two 8mm x 25mm bolts) suppliedand tighten 12-13 Do not over-tighten as this can damage the the shifter cable ac-cording to Figure 4.

Avoid kinks andsharp bends and route the cable awayfrom hot engine or exhaust the two rubber boots, onelarge nut, and a large lock washer fromthe threaded end of the shifter the end of the cable into the cablebracket. Install the large nut and thelockwasher loosely over the end of thecable. Install the two rubber boots onto2outside surface of the shifter baseusing a 1/4" x 1/2" hex bolt, lockwasher and nut. Install the e-clip thatsecures the cable to the cable before the final installa-tion of the shifter in the vehicle, attachthe indicator cable to the side of theshifter as shown in Figure 3. Theindicator cable bracket is secured tothe shifter mechanism with two #6 x 3/4" sheet metal screws and the eyeleton the end of the indicator cable issecured to the cable pin by a suppliedsmall the neutral safetyand the reverse light switches to thebracket using two #4-40 x 1" screwsand nuts, as shown in Figure 1.

Be-ware, over tightening the switch at-tachment screws will crack the switchhousings. Install the switch assemblyon the shifter. To adjust the switches, loosen the screws and slide theswitches in or out as required, thenretighten the the cable on the shifteras shown in Figure 1. 10 Install the swivelon the threaded end of the cable andposition it in the center of the the transmission se-lector lever by hand to the full rearposition (Low). Operate the shifter le-ver to the Low gear position (ratchetedall the way back). Adjust the large nutson the cable so that the swivel will slideinto the front hole on the selector the large nuts completely. Besure that the swivel will slide freely inand out of the hole in the selector : The shifter will not operatecorrectly unless the front hole inthe shift lever is the swivel out of the hole andmove the selector lever to Park, all theway forward. Also move the shifter tothe Park position (all the way forward).Reinsert the swivel into the front holein the selector lever.
