Part number 3E1089 R3 1 March 2003 Installation NoteCardax FT Controller 3000 CAUTIONThis equipment contains components that can be damaged byelectrostatic discharge. Ensure both you and the equipment areearthed before beginning any Cardax FT Controller 3000 The Cardax FT Controller 3000 is a network compatible device that interfaces Cardax IV andWiegand readers into the Cardax FT Command Centre Cardax FT Controller 3000 integrates much of the functionality of the original Cardax FTController 5000 with Reader and I/O functionality into a single product. Cardax FT Local BUSconnections are not InterfaceInterfaces to readers and associated I/O are set up as four distinct groups (numbered 1 to 4).Each group is the same and provides connection to either one Wiegand or two Cardax IVreaders, and four balanced (4-state) inputs and two general purpose relay outputs capable ofswitching 24 volts DC/AC, 5A resistive loads.

Each group is also provided with a 12 V DC500mA (resettable fuse) power Wiegand and Cardax IV interconnections share a common connector such that either oneWiegand or two CardaxIV readers can be connected to each port. The following are examplesof possible combinations over the four groups: 4 x Wiegand readers only 2 x Cardax IV + 3 x Wiegand readers 8 x Cardax IV readers only2 Part number 3E1089 R3 March 2003 Before you beginShipment contentsCheck the shipment contains the following items: Cardax FT Controller 3000 1 x Cardax FT Controller 3000 1 x Cardax FT Controller 3000 Installation Note (this document) 1 x Cardax FT Product Label 1 x Cardax FT Controller 3000 component identification decal 9 x M3 screws 32 x 4k7 ohm resistorsCardax FT CabinetRefer to the enclosed Cardax FT Cabinet Installation Note (part number 3C4513) forthe shipment contents despatched with the Cardax FT cabinet for the Cardax FT Controller 3000 has a label on the inside back surface, indicating it has been configured specifically for this product.

The cabinet can berotated, however the door must not be re-hinged as the Run LED will not shine throughthe supplyThe Cardax FT Controller 3000 requires a V DC 15%. For further detail regardingpower supply refer to the Technical specifications section at the end of this Installation PA1, PA2, PA3 and PA4 provide power out connection points via 500mA , this DC voltage out will be approximately V DC lower than the voltage suppliedto the Cardax FT Controller 3000. The fuses are resettable, ( under fault conditions, fusesgo high resistance. When the fault subsides or power is removed, then the fuses will cool andreset themselves). The current load on these connection points (PA1 to PA4) is in addition to the requiredby the Cardax FT Controller 3000.

When using these connection points, ensure the PowerSupply to the Cardax FT Controller 3000 is capable of supplying the extra current full details on site cabling and recommended cable specifications refer to Chapter 2 of theCardax FT Installation cablingThe communications between the CardaxFT Controller 3000 and the Cardax CommandCentre FT Server can either be via a dial up modem or, preferably, via a permanent optimum performance 10 BaseT unshielded twisted pair (UTP) (CAT5 or better) cableshould be used for Ethernet connections. The Cardax FT Controller 3000 is provided with anRJ45 socket (P2) for 10 BaseT Cable ShieldsTo comply with CE requirements and improve noise suppression, an EMI Cable Shield (ferritecore) should be applied to both the ethernet cable (P2) and the power in cable (P1).

Thereare two types of shields, ( those that are split and those that are not). The ethernet cablePart number 3E1089 R3 3 March 2003needs to use a hinged clamp core, ( a split shield), while the power in cable can use the case of the power in (P1) EMI cable shield, the cable must turn through the core extra turn through the core markedly increases the impedance associated with the coreand provides more the EMI cable shield as close to the entry point of the cabinet as CommunicationsCardax FT Controllers communicate with other Cardax FT units via high quality twisted paircommunications cable with low capacitance - typically Category 5 (CAT5) twisted pair cable is polarised and needs to be terminated at the last, physical cablingCommunication via modem requires the RS232 cabling to be terminated in a DE9 socket andconnected to plug InputsCabling should be a minimum size of mm2 (24 AWG) for all ensure correct tamper detection (short or open circuit), the balanced inputs require 4k7ohm resistors to be connected as close as possible to the device being the monitored device incorporates a normally-closed tamper switch, it can be wired inseries with resistor VR24k7R1 4k7 Refer to Chapter 2 of the Cardax FT Installation manual for further information on connectinginputs and relaysThe Cardax FT Controller 3000 has eight relay outputs, ( two per group)

, PE1 to PE4 andPF1 to PF4. Refer to the Component Layout within this Installation Note for wiring this cabling to and from this relay plug must be capable of carrying sufficient current for thedevice the relay is controlling. The relay contact can carry 5 Amps at 24 V DC/AC : The connectors on the Cardax FT Controller 3000 accommodate both horizontal and vertical wiring number 3E1089 R3 March Cardax FT Cabinet Installation Note (part number 3C4513) details theprocedures involved to mount the Cardax FT Cabinet:-positioning the Cardax FT Cabinet door-removing the appropriate cutouts-securing the Cardax FT Cabinet to the :The Cardax FT Cabinet should be installed in a secure, internal situation. Thesecurity of the Installation ultimately depends on the way you install the Cardax the 9 x M3 screws, fit the Controller PCB to the rear face of the Cardax FTCabinet, ensuring that the rear tamper sensor aligns with the light pipe.

Also ensure thatthe front LED lines all the system and power cables. The cables should stow neatly and be held inplace by the cable clamps fitted into the base of the to the next section Component layout for the location of the to PA4=Power outPB1 to PB4=Reader portsPC1 to PC4=Balanced inputsPD1 to PD4=Balanced inputsP1=Power inP2=10 BaseT Ethernet portP3=Dial-up RS232 portP4=RS485PE1 to PE4=Relay outputsPF1 to PF4=Relay outputsRemember:The balanced inputs require the 4k7 ohm resistors to be connected as closeas possible to the device being the component identification decal inside the Cardax FT Cabinet door. Thisdecal enables you to enter wiring and connection details and identifies the location anddesignation of cable connections, fuses, LEDs, the Cardax FT Controller following initialisation procedures are detailed in the later section titled Initialisation :- Setup details- Optical tamper the Cardax FT Product Label to the outside of the Cardax FT Cabinet door andenter the relevant number 3E1089 R3 5 March 2003 Component layoutInitialisationEthernet setup detailsEach Cardax FT Controller 3000 has a pre-programmed, unique address (MAC address).

When the Cardax FT Controller 3000 is connected to the Ethernet, the Cardax FT CommandCentre Server (when configured) will recognise and acknowledge this address, which isautomatically linked to an IP : The Cardax FT Command Centre Server must be configured to recognise the Controller s MAC address (refer to the Cardax FT Command Centre documentation). The Server then transmits the following information to the Cardax FT Controller 3000:- IP address for the Controller (3000 Series)- IP address of the Server the Controller is to communicate withThe Server can then send data to, and receive data from, the Cardax FT Controller 3000. !
