Prerequisites: You must have received your software -based certificates before you can download ADS software from the California ISO web site. The certificates should be saved in a known location on your computer. If you do not have a certificate or your access needs to be updated to add or remove resources, please submit a User Application Access Request Form. The form can be found at the following url: For more information, please refer to the FAQ document found at the same location. Page 2 of 12 Rev. 11/13/2012 Technical Support: If you are having difficulty with the security certificates or the ADS installation, please contact the CAISO Help Desk at (888) 889-0450 or email 1.

Procedure for installing the ADS Certificates: 1. You will need to install your ADS certificate in Internet Explorer to download and use the software . The root certificates are automatically installed when you install the user certificate. On your ADS machine, open Internet Explorer and select the tools -> Internet menu option. Select the Content tab. Select the Certificates button. 2. As an alternative you can simply double-click on the certificate itself to launch the Certificate Import Wizard and go to Step 4 below. 3. The Certificates window is opened.

Press the button. Page 3 of 12 Rev. 11/13/2012 4. The Certificate Import Wizard is opened. Click next . Page 4 of 12 Rev. 11/13/2012 5. Procedure for installing the ADS GUI Client: The default save location for Production is C:\Program Files\ California ISO\ADS. The default save location for Market Simulation is C:\Program Files\ California ISO\ADSM arketSim. ATTENTION : Only applicable for the ADS Client installation for Market Sim testing purposes. To avoid overwriting the production version of ADS: During installation, the user s destination folder location must be updated to a location that is different from the default location.

For example change the offered default location to: C:\Program Files\ California ISO\ADS Market Sim\ADS. If the user has an existing ADS shortcut on their desktop named ADS , that shortcut should be renamed to something similar to ADS Existing . The ADS install process below will create an ADS shortcut which will overwrite the existing shortcut if the existing shortcut is not renamed. Page 7 of 12 Rev. 11/13/2012 1. To download the client installation package, enter the following address into the IE address bar and click go : Production Environment: Market Simulation Environment: 2.

Save the installation package zip file to a location on your hard drive. 3. Unzip the file and run the executable (.exe) program. This starts the installation wizard, shown on the next page. Follow the Instructions in the wizard to install the ADS application. 4. The installation program will add a tree under the Start -> menu that contains the following shortcuts: ADS which launches the ADS Client Page 8 of 12 Rev. 11/13/2012 5. Following the successful completion of the installation, move a copy of the P12 certificate file from the known directory to the following location: C:\Program Files\ California ISO\ \keystore.

6. Next, launch the ADS application. Enter the Certificate Name as the username, and enter the corresponding certificate password as the password. Page 9 of 12 Rev. 11/13/2012 7. The application will display the following pop up boxes when connecting. Procedure for Customizing the ADS New Instruction Alarms: ADS clients now have the capability to customize each New Instruction Alarm sound.

Follow the steps below to configure your alarm sounds. Version and greater, allow the alarms to be configured on the alarms tab, rather than navigating to the system Control Panel. While ADS is open, navigate to File - > Options -> Alarms. Page 11 of 12 Rev. 11/13/2012 Alternatively, the alarms can still be set under the Control Panel. Follow the steps below to configure your alarm sounds on the Control Panel. 1. The alarm sounds are adjusted by browsing to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Multimedia (may be Sounds and Audio Devices in later versions of Windows).

Page 12 of 12 Rev. 11/13/2012 2. Under the Sounds tab, scroll to the ADS section in the Program events window. 3. Each event has a wave file (*.WAV) sound that is associated with that event, such that when that event is triggered the sound is activated and played. Using the Browse option users can access standard wave files or they can find personalized wave files that can be used associated with the specific event. Four completely different sounds can be selected for each of the events. This will help the operators distinguish between the arrivals of the various instruction types.
