Description of Functional Test KitThe Functional Test Kit (See Figure and ) is ahandheld battery powered tester capable of testing tripelements for Digitrip family of power circuit breaker Digitrip 520 family includes the Digitrip 220+, 520,520i, 520M, 520Mi, 520MC and 520 MCi. In addition it cantest the Digitrip1150 family consisting of the Digitrip 1150,1150i and Digitrip 1150V and 1150Vi by overlaying anameplate on the Auxiliary Power Module is included to provide trip unitpower to illuminate the trip units having display molded case Series G and FD circuit breakers canalso be tested with the addition of the Series G and FDoverlay and a different test cable assembly supplied in thekit.

3 The type test that can be done are trip unit Power Up, CAUTIONTESTING A circuit breaker WHILE IN-SERVICEAND CARRYING LOAD CURRENT IS NOT RECOM-MENDED FOR POWER AND MEDIUM VOLTAGE CIR-CUIT OF A circuit breaker THAT RESULTS INTHE TRIPPING OF THE circuit breaker SHOULDBE DONE ONLY WITH THE circuit breaker IN ADEENERGIZED SYSTEM OR IN THE TEST OR DISCON-NECTED CELL POSITIONS OR WHILE THE CIRCUITBREAKER IS ON A TEST TESTS WITHOUT THE CUTLER-HAMMER-APPROVED TEST KIT MAY DAMAGE THEDIGITRIP Time Trip, Instantaneous Trip, Short Delay Trip, andGround (Earth) Fault Trip. These test selections arechosen via the switch labeled Select Test on the Test Kit.

Remove thecircuit breaker s plexiglass cover and the additional coverover the Digitrip Test Kit port pins. This is done byapplying a screwdriver under the lip to pop off the cover. Ifnecessary, reposition the Thermal Memory jumper tempo-rarily to a bridging position in order to defeat memory forthese tests. (See Figure ). CAUTIONBEFORE PLUGGING A TEST KIT INTO THE TESTPORT, VERIFY THAT THE LTM JUMPER IS IN THEINACTIVE POSITION (See Figure ).

6 AFTER TEST-ING, RETURN THE LTM JUMPER TO ITS Long Time Memory (LTM) JumperTo begin testing, connect the Test Kit cable (style5720B57) from the left side of the Functional Test Kit to the Test Kit port pins located on the front panel of the trip unit end of the cable is designed in such a waythat it will only fit over the Test Kit pins Power UpSet the Select Test switch on the Test Kit to the POWERUP position. Push the Test pushbutton on the Test Kit toverify battery voltages are available from both powersources. Both Battery Voltage LED s A and B should : The cable has an interlock feature and must beconnected to the tester to enable battery power.

7 In theevent that either LED does not light, refer to Section Digitrip status. Unit Status LED should flash at arate of about one second on / one second off. ReleaseTest Digitrip 520M/520MC units, a current value can beobserved by pressing the Step pushbutton to select thePHase 2 readout. The readout value should be approxi-mately 30% of the Plug Instantaneous TripSet Select Test switch to INST position. Set Instanta-neous Pickup of Digitrip to 2x and Short Delay Setting to10x. Close the circuit breaker . Push the Test pushbuttonand release immediately after the circuit breaker trips orthe Digitrip indicates Trip condition. Check that theInstantaneous Trip LED on the Digitrip is flashing at a 4 or5 second repetition rate.

8 Reclose the circuit breaker andreset the trip unit by depressing the Reset Short Delay Trip (not applicable on Digitrip 220)The Select Test switch should be on SHORT position atthis time. Position the Digitrip Instantaneous setting to 4xor higher and Short Pickup to 2x. Push the Testpushbutton and hold for a maximum of one immediately after trip. The Short Delay Trip LEDshould flash after trip. Reset the circuit breaker and the tripunit. Reposition the Digitrip Short Pickup setting to 4x Long Delay Pickup and TripSet the Select Test to LONG position. Position theDigitrip Short Pickup setting to 4x or higher. Set LongPickup to and Long Delay to 2 seconds.

9 Push Testand hold. Status indicator LED on the Digitrip should flashquickly indicating an overload condition in progress. LongDelay Trip should occur in 5 - 8 seconds accompanied byflashing Long Delay Trip LED. If held in too longafter a trip, the Digitrip unit will re-enter its protectionalgorithm to start timing out for a second trip.

10 In thisprocess the previous expected trip LED indication may Ground Fault Trip (if applicable)Set Select Test to the GROUND position. Plug in theGround Fault Test Connector supplied with the kit to thecircuit breaker s B secondary contact block. This pro-vides a temporary jumper from terminals B-6 to B-7 of thecircuit breaker . (See Figure )NOTE: The circuit breaker will have to be in its Discon-nected Position to plug in this jumperconnection could be accomplished by other means.) Nosetting changes are required for this test. Hold Testpushbutton until circuit breaker trips and/or Digitrip Ground(Earth) Fault indicator testing is completed, remove the Ground FaultConnector jumper with the yellow tag and disconnectcable from both trip unit and Test Kit.
