You have the ability to create status updates, discussions, documents, polls, blog posts and videos. Related Documentation > How to Create a Status Update > How to Create Discussions and Questions > @mentioning > How to Create and Upload Documents and Files Places: Spaces, Groups and Projects There are three types of Places in the JacobsConnect Community Spaces, Groups, and Projects. Spaces and Groups look the same and have similar functionality, but there are key differences in their purpose.

7 Please fully read the following information before requesting a Space or creating a Group: Spaces Groups Projects Generally reserved for official company content and can only be created by the JacobsConnect Community Management Team or Space Administrators. Followers receive an alert when there is new activity within a space. Most Spaces are public and can be viewed by all members of the community. Can be created by any member of the JacobsConnect Community. Typically formed by teams, committees, departments or units to share information or collaborate around a specific topic, project or interest. Do not include Sub-Groups but may have a project associated with them. Connected to a specific Space or Group. Lightweight project management tool offering a calendar, tasks and document storage. Should NOT be used to manage client projects. Creating / Requesting a Place Spaces: Any member, group or company organization may request a space for business-related activities or communications.

8 Sub-spaces can also be added by clicking the About tab and sending an e-mail request to the owner. To request a new Space (not connected to an existing Space), contact the JacobsConnect Advanced Support Team. Support will route the request to the appropriate Enterprise Community Manager(s) for evaluation. First-time Space owners/administrators are required to participate in a space administrator training session, provided by a JacobsConnect Community Management team member. This hands-on training will provide you with resources on managing and editing space content as well as permission guidelines. Groups: Before you create a group, consider your purpose and target audience. Is your Group limited to a specific team, or do you want to engage users from the greater community? You should also make sure a similar group does not already exist. Search through our current Groups using broad keywords and terms ( Excel, Sales Resources, Architecture, Ecology, and Health and Safety).

9 If a similar Group exists, the following actions can be taken for each Group Membership Type: Open group: Anyone can view content and participate. Click Join this Group to be added to the members list. To receive the updates on the latest activity, click Follow, and select the appropriate stream. Members Only group: Membership is open and non-members can view content, but must join to participate. Click Join this Group to contribute or Follow to view the Group s content. Private group: Membership is by approval / invitation only, and only members can view content and participate. Click Ask to Join this Group, and the Group moderator / owner will approve or reject membership. Secret group: Membership is by invitation only, only members may participate and the group is not listed in the group directory.
