Quality management System 601/2018/6 specification Page 4 | Version | 05/12/2013 | Author AW About this Qualification (Description, Objectives, Aims, Purpose) The IQ Level 2 Award in the Prevention and control of infection (QCF) aims to familiarise learners with infection control policies and procedures, develop understanding of causes of infections , how they are spread, conditions which favour their growth and ways to reduce/prevent spread of infection - waste disposal, hand washing, cleaning and PPE.

5 This qualification is designed to develop knowledge of infection control . Learners may access this training in order to progress to further qualifications or to complement other programmes. It is suitable for learners preparing for employment or for learners who are already in employment and who need to understand infection control for their job role. Structure (Credit, Rules of Combination, Guided Learning Hours) To achieve this qualification, learners must gain 7 credits from the 3 mandatory units. Unit Level Credit Guided Learning Hours The Principles of infection Prevention and control L/501/6737 2 3 30 Causes and Spread of infection H/501/7103 2 2 20 Cleaning, Decontamination and Waste Management R/501/6738 2 2 20 Total 7 70 Delivery Guided learning hours are 70.

6 It is the responsibility of training centres to decide the appropriate course duration, based on their learners ability and level of existing knowledge. It is possible, therefore, that the number of Guided Learning Hours can vary from one training centre to another according to learners' needs. Guided learning hours are all times when a member of provider staff is present to give specific guidance towards the learning aim being studied on the programme. This definition includes lectures, tutorials, and supervised study. It does not include hours where supervision or assistance is of a general nature and is not specific to the study of the learners.

7 Assessment All the units in this qualification are knowledge-based. Assessment is by portfolio (internally set and marked and quality assured by IQ). An Achievement Record for this qualification is available from the website/ on request. All assessment criteria must be met and mapped and the location of the evidence must be indicated in the achievement record. All knowledge-based assessment criteria in this qualification must be assessed using methods appropriate to the assessment of knowledge and understanding, these can be assessed by a variety of methods including: Question and answer test Multiple choice questions Question and answer verbal (ensure records are kept) Essay Other This qualification is not graded, successful learners achieve a pass.

Learner entry requirements There are no formal entry requirements. However, learners should be able to work at level 1or above and be proficient in the use of English Language. Progression Learners who achieve this qualification could progress on to further training or education and go on to qualifications in health and social care, such as: IQ Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF) IQ Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF) Tutor requirements All trainers delivering this qualification must have: Appropriate teaching qualification PTLLS or Level 3 Certificate in Education and Training Subject knowledge Centre Requirements Centres must be approved by IQ in order to offer this qualification.

Understand roles and responsibilities in the prevention and control of infections Explain employees roles and responsibilities in relation to the prevention and control of infection Employees roles and responsibilities: To include: personal, organisational and legal responsibilities; responsibilities to self, colleagues, employer, clients, visitors; responsibilities for acting to prevent spread of infection , review of practice; differing roles when working in different contexts; good personal hygiene; using PPE; safe disposal of waste and use of reporting procedures.

10 Explain employers responsibilities in relation to the prevention and control of infection Employers roles and responsibilities: To include: personal, organisational and legal responsibilities; responsibilities to self, colleagues, employer, clients, visitors; responsibilities for establishing, maintaining and updating procedures, assessing risk, identifying and taking action on training needs; knowledge of relevant policies; monitoring/ training staff; providing PPE and monitoring the work environment. 2.
