1 A School of Good Samaritan Education Learning Support Officer (LSO) Role Description Role Purpose The Learning Support Officer (LSO) supports the mission, vision and values of the College community and the College's Good Samaritan Benedictine tradition where hospitality, peace and justice, stewardship and community are key. The Rule of St Benedict gives guidance in this mission- arrange all things so that the strong have something to strive for and the weak have nothing to run from (RB: Ch. 64:19). The Learning Support Officer works collaboratively with Inclusive Learning staff, students, parents and teachers to meet the individual Learning needs of students.

2 Role Accountabilities The position requires a person flexible in approach, who is able to work with a range of students and Support their individual needs. The LSO will be able to implement strategies to suit each student under the guidance and direction of the Inclusive Learning Coordinator. Encouraging students to develop a sense of responsibility towards their own education will be a high priority. LSOs have no direct supervisory duties and in general, are not responsible for students without a teacher being present. The Learning Support Officer supports classroom teachers with tasks essential to Support students by Assisting student Learning and participation in the College Identifying a student s needs, skills and difficulty as they arise and working under the Inclusive Learning Coordinator s direction to respond to these concerns.

3 Understanding a student s identified Learning difficulties and offering assistance in the classroom. Working with the student s teacher by actively participating in activities, assisting, intervening and encouraging students and, where appropriate, providing 1:1 instructive Support . Assisting students to deal with with adjusted curriculum where necessary under the guidance of subject teachers and the Inclusive Learning Coordinator. Liaising with other Inclusive Learning and teaching staff in order to maintain a comprehensive Support program, tracking student progress. Facilitating social interaction, promoting independence and assisting students with their personal organisation when required.

4 Accompanying students on excursions and other designated external activities when required. Attending Inclusive Learning team meetings and providing feedback in that forum to staff involved in the student s progress. Assisting with the implementation of Individual Learning Plan (ILP) Working with students, under the direction of a teacher, to Support the implementation of particular Learning goals as identified in the Individual Learning Plan. Facilitating individual Multi-Lit programs to Support relevant ILPs. Facilitating Small Group Learning Working in partnership with the Inclusive Learning Team to run small targeted groups such as SRA spelling, reading or comprehension .

5 Leading small group instruction designed by the teacher in the classroom. Adapting lessons for individual students, under the guidance of the class teacher. Professional Learning Relevant courses will be offered to skill Learning Support Officers in the areas of literacy, numeracy and comprehension . 1. Essential Requirements for the Role Alignment with values and Catholic ethos of the College Enthusiasm and motivation to contribute Maintainance of high work standards with minimal supervision Flexibility and ability to operate effectively in a changing environment Completion of a Working With Children Check for NSW Willingness to complete the required induction modules (including Mandatory Reporting and Code of Conduct) and annual compliance training (anaphylaxis and First Aid).

Professionalism and Mission of Stella Maris College Is punctual for all duties Presents self appropriately, following dress code as required Maintains confidentiality of privileged information, to which he/she is privy by virtue of the role Maintains highly effective and positive working relationship with all staff Cooperates with staff to achieve the implementation of all College policies and procedures Proactively demonstrates College values in daily work and interactions with students and colleagues Attends all relevant school meetings, assemblies, sporting events, Mass, community and faith days as well as professional Learning opportunities as appropriate.

7 Complies with policies and directives issued by the Leadership Team including Work Health and Safety, Child Safety and the Staff Code of Conduct 4. Conditions Conditions are as per the current Support Staff Enterprise Agreement (AIS). Hours of Work: to or to (50 min lunchbreak) Annual Leave: 4 weeks (20 days) annual leave (to be taken during school holidays) holiday Hours: Fulltime- 5 days Where practicable, holiday hours are used during term time to Support student Learning with Multi-Lit, SRA and Duke of Edinburgh peer tutoring programs. 8 Learning Support Officers should actively work with the Inclusive Learning team to manage the provision of programs equitably within award hours. Fulltime x 1 = 5 days (25 hrs) Part-time x 5 = 4 days (22 hrs) x 5 = 3 days ( hrs) x 5 = 2 days (11 hrs)
