8 The data utilized in the development ofthis publication were collected by the RAC and represent equipment levelexperience under field conditions in military, industrial and has been necessary to accept the assumption that the failures ofnonelectronic parts follow the exponential distribution; that is, such parts display aconstant failure rate. This assumption is necessary due to the virtual absence ofdata containing individual times or cycles to 1 of this publication provides summarized generic part level failurerates. Section 2 consists of detailed entries by part type and environmentalapplication in unsummarized form. In Section 3, failure rates for parts unique to orfrequently used in computer peripherals, point of sale equipment, and testinstruments are tabulated.
