5 It soon became obvious to me that the projectwould entail a complete new edition of the Latin text, and eventuallythe press of circumstances left the entire task to me. First, let me makeit clear that while A. Schnyder and the annotators W. Behringer andG. Jerouschek (so often referred to as Behringeret al.) are cited mostlyto indicate my disagreement on specific points, I have greatly benefitedfrom their work (especially Schnyder s commentary), a fact that maybe obscured in my comments, since there is no particular reason tomention agreement. Next, I offer my thanks to Andrew Gow, RichardKieckhefer, Edward Peters and Jan Ziolkowski for their generosity inproviding me with bibliographical assistance; to the Nieders achsischeStaats- und Universit atsbibliothek G ottingen for permission to useimages of their copy of theeditio princeps, and to Helmut Rohlfingand Martin Liebetruth for their generous assistance in providing thoseimages; to my wife Kelly MacFarlane for prodigious bouts of proofread-ing (as well as helping with the often infuriating idiocies of MicrosoftWord).

6 And to Kelly and to my previous wife Katy Mackay for theirmoral support during the many years in which this project broughtabout my voluntary exile in the Cambridge University University Press978-0-521-81345-7 - MALLEUS MALEFICARUM , Volume I: The Latin Text and IntroductionHenricus Institoris and Jacobus SprengerFrontmatterMore informationMap 1050100150200250 km050100150 milesNCologneAachenMetzL ttichGenevaLausanneBerneBoltigenComoTren tInnsbruckBrixenEinsiedelnF ssenLakeConstanceAugsburgRegensburgNurem bergTachovStrasburgFreisingLandshutWiese nthalRohrbachBaselBormio/WormserbadMarbu rgHESSESEE DETAILF reiburgSchlettstadtMeuseMoselleRhineMain IsarInnLechAdriaticSeaDanubeSa neRh neSAVOYE tschSimmenLindau(Li ge)IllLendelbrunn10 E12 E14 E4 E10 E12 E14 E4 E8 E6 E46 N48 N50 N46 N48 N50 NSouthern Germany and surrounding areas Cambridge University University Press978-0-521-81345-7 - MALLEUS MALEFICARUM , Volume I.
