1 COURSE OUTLINE General Requirements for Rescue Technician nfpa 1006 Also referred to as 1006 CORE RESCUE Training May 23-25, 2015 fire & Emergency Services Spring Training School Gander, NL General Requirements for Technical Rescuer nfpa 1006 Also referred to as CORE RESCUE Training May 23-25, 2015 fire & Emergency Services Training School, Gander, NL Course Description The course is designed to prepare participants for professional certification testing (written and skills) in accordance with nfpa 1006 Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications, General Requirements and is a pre-requisite for additional certified nfpa 1006 programs such as rope rescue, confined space rescue and vehicle rescue. This course consists of classroom learning, practical demonstrations and intensive hands-on participation.

2 Participants will review fundamental rescue theories and techniques in order to accurately and safely execute the skill sets required. Certification fire & Emergency Services Newfoundland & Labrador will provide testing as applicable for this program. Evaluation will consist of practical demonstrations and a written exam. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive certification from the International fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). Topics include Site operations, scene management, management and control of incident hazards, resource management, basic search theory, basic ground support for helicopter activities, victim management, basic patient care and packaging, rope management, high/low angle rope rescue systems, anchor systems, rescue knots, technical rescue equipment identification and application, size-up considerations, triage criteria and techniques, and applicable nfpa laws and standards.

3 Required Text Books Technical Rescuer, Rope Levels I and II by Jeff Mathews Equipment All technical equipment will be provided by Technical Rope & Rescue Inc. Participants must provide their own work boots, tight fitting leather palmed gloves, safety glasses and wear clothing suitable for hands on Training ie, coveralls or long pants and long sleeve shirts. Components of the program will be held outdoors, please prepare for the weather.
